If you listen to Nasri or even Cesc or Clichy or any of the other players who have left claiming that they don't believe Arsenal can compete, they all blame the board and owners and NOT WENGER for this.
They all blame the board for not spending or supporting the team with good players and NOT WENGER.
All these players can't be wrong. I have always believed that Wenger has never had the money quoted by the media and even our club but has had his hands tied up. You just need to see the number of players we lose out on for a difference of just 2M to 5M to understand that. No manager, even Wenger, will want to lose out on a player for just that little amount of money. However the board and owners whose money it is will penny pinch.
But Wenger has been too decent to throw his employers under the bus and has been vilified and lampooned by the media, other managers and sadly even us.
So in Arsene I trust but in our greedy board and owner I don't. Cheers!!!!
Different point - Wenger & players who left

Let's get real Fabregas earns less at Barcelona than at
Arsenal. He did not go for money.
Nasri did leave for money, but I believe also that the poor performance post Birmingham in Carling Cup and Fabregas departure were also factors.
There are two major flaws in Arsenal's current policy
at moment.
First is a reluctance to pay top dollar for top players in
transfer market. We have spent £50 million plus in this
window but the top transfer was £12 million spent on
Oxlade-Chamberlain. There remains resistence to idea of spending £20-30 million.
Second we continue to spend too much on average
players wages and too little on the players who make a real difference.
In this transfer window Wenger had no choice but to
carry out a 'rebuild' operation, because of two departures and the inadequacies of a large number of
squad players.
That was proven on Sunday with 8-2 defeat when we
put out a team containing only 3 players who are likely
to be now in our starting line up. The rest demonstrated that they are simply not good enough.
Hopefully Wenger and the Board will revert in future to
buying 'world class players' as well as top potentials.
There are now very few players left in current squad
likely to be cherry picked by Man City,Chelsea or top
2 clubs in Spain.
This is now a more solid squad more reliant on work
ethic than individual brilliance. Hopefully when we go
into transfer market next season we will be able to manage transfers better.
There are still one or two positions in 1st X1 which can
be improved and obviously there are a large number of squad players and or out on loan who need to be offloaded eg Almunia, Djourou,Squillaci,Denilson,
Diaby,Rosicky,Arshavin,Bendtner and Vela

I can understand that we needed a lot of rebuilding so there was a limited amount of money to do that.
But the issue is what you call 'upside'. Are there any players who could suddenly become world class and 'carry' the club. The way Nasri and Cesc did?
We could have bought both Gourcuff and Melo for 20m euros. Now both had hit hard times but were world class at one time. Arsene is KNOWN to rebuild careers. Even Nasri had disappeared in France before Arsene resurrected his career. Thats what we needed. Players in their prime who Arsene could still help.
Not Yossi and Arteta for £10m. Lets hope that Arteta can find the form he had 3 years ago! But at his age?

Nasri carried the club?
Serious rose tinted glasses there

"Nasri carried the club?"
He did last year when Cesc was injured. For the first 6 months. Thats why we were still challenging for 4 cups until he was tapped up around Christmas time last year. Nasri was being nominated as the best player in England at Christmas time.
Thats why Man City paid £25m for someone with only one year left on his contract.

There is something wrong with this sentence, but not sure what?
Let me think....
Season starts in August...
Christmas is in December....
6 months?

Trying to be facetious? Trying to hijack the thread which is 100% correct.
Nasri was our star player till end of Jan when we had 6 wins in the month? Happy?
The board of directors are to blame. And they have given enough to rope for Arsene to hang himself. I hope Arteta proves himself. But more chances than not he will be another Rosicky.

Yes and no to the above!
100% agree with the article but not your point on Nasri.
Nasri is not a player to carry a team, we couldn't count on him when it was needed. He is not a leader and can't inspire but having said that he should do well at Man City with other people to follow.
Time will tell if he keeps it up after a year there.

Anyone can perform for short period of time.
Arshavin was the reason we made the top 4 when he was first signed a few years ago. He "carried" us until we were over the line end of the season.
Djourou and Kos were solid for a period last season, giving us numerous clean sheets.
Chamakh was also instrumental in our early season being relatively successful last year.
Do you look on them in a similar light or is it just Nasri who continues with the star treatment when his level of performances drop?

Do both of you believe in Arsene's judgement?

Jenius99 - for trying to get the conversation back on my thread. It seems every article seems to be diverted towards ether wumming or Nasri or Cesc in minutes. Sad indeed.
