Watching the game last night I was convinced it wasn't a penalty but the more I think about it the more my mind changes.
Ok we ask some questions about the incident
1) Was Sterling inside the area ? A YES No question
2) Did the ball strike his arm ? A YES No question
3) Were his arms away from his body ? A YES No question
4) Was it intentional ? This is the only debatable point
While Sterling would say it was not intentional the fact remains that he intended to stop the ball from reaching dangerous areas and jumped with his arms out in a deliberate attempt to stop the ball.
Now we might consider how difficult it is to jump with the arms down by the side. THAT is Sterling's problem, not the ref's.
To recap - he is in the penalty area and deliberately jumps with his arms out to prevent the ball from crossing and the ball strikes his arms. Sterling thinks job done, he prevented the cross going in albeit with his arm.
And remember Sterling had a good chance of scoring when Rose blocked it with his chest (arms firmly down). Now if Rose's arms were out like Sterlings and the ball hits an arm City fans would be screaming for a penalty
Food for thought.
That penalty - the more I think about it

I didn't think it was a pen - and i still think the same now - but Sterling almost deserved for it to be given because of the way he jumped and turned his back from that far away - he wimped out of being hit by the ball in the face or stomach - something he could actually learn a lot from Danny Rose...

Chicken.....................................I am with you on this, it was probably the most dubious penalty we will ever be given. But hey, we have had decisions go against us in the past and have had to grin & bear it.
Rose's attitude epitomises the team spirit at Spurs now & it seems we have a squad that plays for each other!

And like with right back, it must help having 2 decent players to fight over each position. Walker wasn't brilliant yesterday - but he just looks a lot more focused than when he had little or no competition for his place.
Sorry to post off-topic there but just wanted to make that point .

I'm really pleased for Danny. Not long ago he was a liability now he is a great addition. Yeah he has a few off days but poch has worked wonders with him.

SB&S,
I actually think Rose was one of our better players last season. He started off poorly this season but like Davies, he's also making it difficult to be dropped.

Pool were given a very similar penalty at Klanfield earlier in the season against Swansea, I don`t remember the same media driven outcry on that occasion.
I would have been saying no penalty had it been given against Spurs, but Spurs have had that many occasions over the years of being facked over by referees (funnily enough quite a few against City, from Balotelli`s stamp on Parker to Rose`s rescinded red card and non penalty to Fat Frank being stood offiside in front of Hugo when Aguero scored etc etc) that they are still owed more than plenty.

Even Toby has had one bad day so far but its what makes us human. Rose definitely has grown up and seems to keep his concentration better and deserves his game time. Once upon a time I would groan at the team sheet but rarely these days. Nice to have the balance we have.

Interesting that City have not had a pen decision against them at home for 13 months before yesterday. I guess they could have the most clinically accurate defence in the EPL or just plain lucky...

Penalty without a shadow of doubt.
Sterling was in the area no doubt.
Sterling jumps and his arm is not in a natural position. Sterling made his body wider with the use of his arm/elbow. It is clever by turning his back it does not look intentional but the way his arm moved that was intentional to block the ball.
Admitedly it was not as blatant as maradonna or suarez but that it was an attempt to block the ball with his arm.
I was just stunned clattenberg gave it. Nani goal, mendes over the line, penalties at old trafford, making vdv take a penalty three times for no offences. He usually makes every decision again us.
Rose reaction was far too strong aswell, he was adamant. Rarely do we as a team pressurise a ref we are one of the most competent in fair play awards but Rose's reaction was so strong.

Funnily enough Modric I thought he had a smirk as he landed and instantly got a feeling he thought he'd gotten away with it. Daft I know, it could have relief the cross hadn't put the front of his head in the back of his bonce or wind I guess. Point is, we won. They lost and for all the money chucked at them these last few years Spurs and Leicester broke a 7 year run of never losing two games on the bounce at home. #recordbreakers !
