Credit to Baldy

With all the positive words being spoken about Spurs at the moment, it seems to be Poch and the players taking the praise, but lets not forget to give credit where it is due to the Top Man, Daniel Levy, aka Baldy, or tight bald c*** to Don.

Notwithstanding the fact that Poch was hired by Levy, in an age where big clubs are being mismanaged and heading for the plunge, like Villa, Newcastle, and before them Leeds, and where small clubs are being mismanaged and heading for the drop with no return, like QPR, we have to be very grateful for the stability that Levy has given us over the years.

I am usually a staunch defender of Levy, the advancement of the club in the time that ENIC have been involved it quite remarkeable. From when 10th was a good season, with the odd cup run, to now where anything outside the top 4 is a disappointment, and out of the top 6 a disaster, and far more competitive in all the cups, state of the art new training complex and stadium on the way, with business deals with the NFL and similar setting us up nicely.

Add to that the normal Levy procedure of tying all the young players down to long deals, then things are really set up for a good next decade at WHL, and our academy seems to be in very good shape too.

He can be frustrating particularly in the transfer market, but at least we can all sleep easy safe in the knowledge that what he does is what he feels is in the best interest for Spurs, unlike some of these other Cowboy owners flying about.

Its not long ago that Villa were up with us as "Champions league hopefuls", and now look at them, and look at us.

So, while Poch is the catalyst for our current performances, and the players the workers, we should be thankful for the sound foundations put in place by Levy to allow them all to perform. You need to be careful what you wish for in football, and we are very lucky to have Baldy overseeing the club, and long may it continue !

I wouldn't go that far Ace Face. I personally wouldn't want him anywhere near my team. However having read a fair few of his ex players autobiographies, I think it's safe to say many of his players would've ran through walls for him. Problem being, as will ol slobber chops is he completely overlooks the age, ability, longevity and personal traits of any potential signing. Criteria then, you ask? He could could do a job for us

"To all those who think Sugar saved us - you are naive - a consortium would have come along no question"

Question.
I don't recall a long queue of interested parties in 1991 ready to usurp the Sugar deal. Perhaps you remember who else was interested ...
----------------------------------------------------------------------

I don't remember the intricacies of everything back then as I was only 7, but I was old enough to be told and understand what 'bankrupt' meant and that Sugar did save us back then. Nobody knows what another 'interested party' would have done with us so I'll take what Sugar did initially, regardless of what he did or didn't do after.

If I remember rightly the battle to take over was between him and Robert Maxwell who of course was later exposed for varying charges of fraud.

Dont take that as fact its a pretty distant memory now

I was 14 at the time and I remember Maxwell being in the mix to buy us.

Sugar actually mentions Robert Maxwell's bid in his book. Thank all Gods that he didn't get near our club. Better the devil you know!!

A mate of mine was doing a pick up from the oxford university press (part of maxwell's business empire) he was talking to a biker who was there on a wait and return job and waiting for the documents so he could take them back to london.the biker was sat in a chair reading a paper and had his feet on the desk.

The doors opened and in walked a load of suits,at the front was maxwell who looked disgusted and asked the biker how much he earned a week.the biker replied £500 and maxwell took out his wallet counted out a grand and said here's 2 weeks wages and you're sacked now get off my property.

The biker took the money winked at my mate and walked out.

Nice little earner especially as he didn't even work for him.
