I heard Arteta took a pay cut to join.....

arsenal, if that's true then it shows great passion to wear an arsenal shirt!

Yeah i think playing CL was the reason that he did (if he did)... very good signing!

From what i understand he did not take a pay cut.
What happened was he wanted £90k a week, we said no, the deal looked off, Arteta wanted the move so he said he would take less (80K I believe).

This is still more than he got at Everton I believe.

I could be wrong.

HenrysCat, exactly. The 'pay-cut' rumour always presents itself but in reality, i doubt a modern footballer would move anywhere (apart from barca) for a lower salary. And I don't blame them, it's what a common mad would do as well.

Besides, if arsenal offered arteta less money than everton did, it would show him how much arsenal rate him and that he's more wanted at everton. So I doubt it's true.

Im pretty sure we are paying him more than what he got at Everton.

If we cant compete with everton with wages we are in real trouble.

Or desperation to leave the sinking ship that is Everton FC and finally play Champions League football

OP: Agree with you. And its obvious that we need to be further in the top 4 for CL League football to attract players singning for us.

Good player who I hope we can keep fit.

Problem is that you haven't exactly got a good track record for that.

Not quite!

Arteta was on a 4 year contract at Everton, which had 3 years remaining! Instead of taking the higher wage, Arteta signed a 4 year contract (one extra year) to equalise the amount he would have got over the 3 years at Everton.

Now that would mean a pay cut if it was for someone younger. But it is unlikely that he would be playing at the very top when his contract would have expired after 3 years. Thats why it wasn't really a pay cut. But it was a way of fitting into the wage structure.

To be honest the wage structure has to go or RVP, Wilshere and Theo will leave in the next couple of years.
