Midfield Dilemma?

not at all! despite the minority who are panicking like hell after Meireles' departure, i think we all know we arent short of options. like an earlier thread, we have enough for two teams

Gerrard
Henderson
Downing
Lucas
Adam
Spearing
Shelvey
Maxi
Kuyt (most of the time)
Johnson (if we do ever struggle & because we have good RB cover)
Aurelio (has played there before when not injured)

so there are 8 players plus 3 more who are versatile enough to fill in, barring a disaster we should be fine to field a strong line up every game...

we also can easily change formations in which we would only need two central midfielders and rely on suarez, bellamy and kuyt as wingers if we needed to.

central midfield we are totally fine, we have lost a quality player in mereiles no doubt but I do feel if we put henderson in the middle, we will see alot more better from him, i'm sure.

Ok, but why sell a very good midfielder only for him to be replaced by sub standard players who wouldn't get a starting spot for WBA (no disrespect) e.g - Spearing, Shelvey (who by the way is totally overrated), Maxi & Kuyt.

As for Johnson & Aurelio in midfield

Babel has gone thank god

------------

It's because he wanted to go. Why should we keep a player who wants to leave.

Speaing and Shelvey will only ever get a game in a situation where Lucas, Adam, Henderson and Gerrard are injured which is highly unlikely. Shelvey is a good prospect and Maxi and Kuyt are very good squad players. Auerlio has also played in midfield beofre and done a decent job.

Why all the negativity mate. We've bought 8 new players this year. We did out business early which has allowed time for our team to gel.

My only issue is that our 2nd string midfield is now:

Kuyt Shelvey Spearing Henderson Maxi

If we'd have kept hold of Aqua or Raul it would have given us a real technical presence in that midfield and a different option on the bench for the first team.

I don't think we've got enough variation in our central midfield.

No negativity.

We could have easily said no.

Wenger stopped Fabregas for 3 years before he eventually moved.

Meireles was (and still is) a lot better than Spearing & Shelvey.

Our midfield has just been weakened because of this sale.

I'm more pi$$ed off than anything else.

And look how that has worked out for them. They won nothing in that time and in desperation they have signed a player who is passed his best.

Of course he's better than Shelvey and Spearing. No one is denying that, but why are you even making the comparison. They are 5th and 6th choice midfielders.

Kenny obvioulsy has a philosophy and that is if you don't want to play for us then you can go. He did it with Torres, Aquilani and Meireles. These are all good players and it takes a strong manager to let them go. We could have tried to keep hold of all of them but what good does it do in the long run?

Its the best option, Meireles wanted out, we have more than enough cover for his position, so let him go.
