If City draw Bayern in the next round...

Evening all

Firstly I'm not sure if this has been covered already... I'm still new but with the Munich and City games being played these past few nights it has reminded me of a few things that troubled me about the whole early announcement of Guardiola to City.

Secondly this is genuinely no attempt to offend anyone of any other football club.. just giving my piece. (Would feel the same if it was any other club)

So to my point. When Guardiola agreed to join Munich around Jan 2013 it didn't bother me too much. Jupp Heynckes as far as I'm aware was due to retire that season anyway and Guardiola wasn't attached to any club at the time so there was no real conflict of interest.

When Guardiola then announced he was leaving Munich this season why could he not have left it at that? Sure that would have triggered speculation, but he would not have fueled this further. When he announced he would next be going to the Premier League this is when I was bothered. At that stage there were 20 managers of each 20 clubs all under contract past this season so that automatically put the limelight on the usual suspects..... Chelsea, Man City, Man Utd etc.

I understand the argument that Pelligrini wanted to announce his availability in the summer too and so he played a role in the announcement of Guardiola to City in January but should this still have been allowed to happen?

If next round of the Champions League City and Munich draw eachother is there not now a conflict of interest? I'm not suggesting any player or manager will not behave professionally but it leaves that scrutiny for any potential result.

Now I may be overthinking it but if City win some may argue that Guardiola maybe played a weakened team or the players weren't as motivated because their manager is not gonna be there long. Similarly if City lose some may argue that the early announcement distracted them?

I think I'm considering an unlikely situation and considering the worst but I don't like the way its kind of unfolded. I liken it to how you'd expect a senior managers to be sent on gardening duty if they're moving over to a rival in the near future.

Just my thoughts... Am I overthinking it?

Btw great professional result from City tonight and wish them the best of luck

Why on earth would Guardiola not be fully motivated to beat City, should they be drawn together? His career CV is massively important ... and not winning the CL with Bayern is the only blot on that so far. Also, he's being brought in by City with the remit of winning their first CL ... so why would be make it easier for them to win it BEFORE he gets there?!

Agree he should have kept quiet about his next move until the season finshed though.

Yeah I do think he will be thoroughly professional, I just do feel there will be that additional scrutiny if for sake of argument City draw them and win convincingly.

I think I've just been a bit bitter since the whole announcement of him going to the Prem, which may have obscured my judgement on other things.

Kane is Able.. you are a sensible man…

what team would you name to play Fiorentina tomorrow?

I think the team might almost pick itself with Kane and Dembele out (hope the latter not for too long)

Would play:

Lloris (If fit)
Trippier Alderweireld Wimmer Davies
Mason Bentaleb
Lamela Eriksen Son
Chadli

Alli has played both Fiorentina away and Palace home so would like to see him rested. I'm pretty interchangeable between either Dier or Toby playing. Full backs I'm just assuming will be rotated again.

What you thinking?

Fair point just considering the start of this season you were smashing it and then didn't maintain it.

Do you think Pep can work with the squad or do you expect lots of changes?

I think he will bring in 2 cm and 1fb. If he sells bony would have to replace him, but we have seen so many times how difficult it is to sell the players who won't get the same wage somewhere else. Interesting summer anyway. Good luck for the rest of the season, had you down for the fa cup tho, but that was before you were right in the title race.

Was it not Pellegrini who announced that he was leaving City in May, before Guardiola confirmed he was going to City?

It was indeed but Guardiola did say he was going to the Premier League next after he confirmed he wasn't staying at Munich. Felt a bit arrogant (maybe deserved arrogance) to me as it seemed like he was expecting to walk into any job even though each team had a manager.
