This section of the Sexual Offences act is riddled with difficulties. And this latest case has made me wonder whether we shouldn’t be calling for an overhaul.

Even in the description of the law, Rozenberg refers to the victim as a ‘child’.

And anyone aged 13, 14, or even 15 is still a child. I think sometimes we forget how young teenagers can be. They may be on the brink of maturity, but they’re still learning about the world and likely still getting pocket money.

So going by the words of a 'legal expert', the girl being 15 is still a child. Which means Johnson is a child molester, kiddie fiddler or whatever you want to call him.

The 2 dictionaries above define the word paedophile as 'a person sexually attracted to children' and the word is commonly used to describe someone who is sexually attracted to children. As the girl was at the time classed as a child then the most common term used would be 'paedophile'. That is what the media will report upon his conviction.

16 is just an arbitrary number. Girls mature much earlier than 16.
It's a bit like speeding. 70 is the arbitrary limit but most people drive well over and you can't be prosecuted if you drive just over 70.
There has to be some leeway

I used to like him as a player, thinking he was very talented and that he could on to big things. This was while he was at City. No wonder his career has turned out the way it has. Seems to have concerned himself too much with outside-of-football matters. And that's before condemning him for getting involved with kids.
