You couldn't make it up

I see on the BBC website that Hodgson is considering Rashford for the Euros. Sure he has scored a few goals but he is far from the finished article and has not achieved a lot yet. We have some of the best and most consistent players in the country in Vardy and Drinkwater to name two. Vardy is top Premier League scorer but there is an embarrassed semi-silence when he is mentioned. He and Kane could set the tournament on fire. Rooney is past his best and England need a proper replacement captain.
Still, we must keep the mighty Man Utd and their sponsors happy as always. Typical piece of favouritism/nonsense from Hodgson and the FA. Let's hope the rest of the leaguer and the London sports writers (It's got be Spurs!) don't wake up to the fact that we have a great team until we have grabbed the title. I am sick of this bias as if we are encroaching on the Big Boys' territory.
Come on Leicester. We can do it!!

Hodgson is not going to pick Rashford. He was asked a pretty leading question about whether he would rule him out and (rather sensibly) said no, he wouldn't rule him out.

He'd be a fool to rule anyone out yet - that's just a way to create a rod for your own back. I reckon the forwards will be Rooney, Kane, Vardy and Welbeck.

But at the back of my mind I worry for Jamie, because I think if there's any chance to take Sturridge Roy will grasp it because he's such a quality player.

Welbeck's a favourite of his despite having hardly played this season, so Vardy could miss out. If he does it'll be a huge call to snub the PL's top scorer...

This just about sums up the whole situation. Sturridge and Welbeck are nothing to rave about this season. Vardy and Kane are so pick the players on form. Whoops, must not upset the big clubs and their sponsors! No wonder England can't win a major tournament. Vardy should be an automatic choice for the Europeans and with a bit of luck Rooney will stay injured. A striker who can't score is not worth a seat on the plane.

Kane has hardly been on fire this season, take out the penalties and he has scored something like 1 in 10.
Jamie Vardy has 1 in the last 4, and that was also a penalty. In the last 14 games he has only scored in 4 games - hardly anything to shout about.
So if you are going by form, and form up to December is hardly going to be relevant in June, then neither should go to the Euros.
On current form Welbeck is the best English striker - a goal every 55 minutes ratio this season

That is why the form arguement usually falls down.
Managers have to go with players they trust to do the job they need them to, players who have performed for them.

If you picked on form then the team would completely change every game, and no consitency would ever be attained. And that is how players like Michael Ricketts got caps on the back of unsustainable purple patches, and then quickly disappeared back to being awful.

Vardy has 3 goals from open play in a dozen games... hardly form now is it.

at the begining of the season yes, but not now.

Vardy may not have been so prolific in recent games, but anyone who's seen our games would know he's still playing well.

Apart from the fact he's hit the woodwork quite a lot recently, he contributes much more than just goals and has been instrumental in setting up numerous chances and goals in recent weeks.

When fit, Sturridge is undoubtedly England's best striker in my opinion - a born goalscorer. But he probably won't be fit.

Kane may not have been in the best form lately, but like Vardy he still contributes a lot to the team even if he's not scoring - his link-up play is underrated.

Welbeck has always struck me as bang average, but Hodgson clearly thinks of him as someone he can rely on and that's invaluable for a manager.

Rooney has the legs of a 50-year-old these days, but he's the skipper so of course he's on the plane.

All in all England don't have the best striking options if we're being brutally honest...
