Scunthorpe were fitter faster and played with belief. It didn't help that Fergie changed the formation yet again. Forty five minutes of utter confusion. Two stupid goals a few minutes in, in both halves and we were dead and buried. I said that this would be my last game of the season and it was. See you chaps in August.

I said a few weeks ago that this scenario was going to be on the cards.
Fergie has many flaws and i could see that.
The threat of relegation isn't so laughable now is it.
The lack of confidence in the team is really worrying and there doesn't seem to be a way out right now.
The failure to bring a couple if experienced defenders in is likely to be the biggest reason why we could and probably will be relegated.

Defenders oh yes why didn't i think of that.
The second goal tonight was beyond laughable.
Keegan captain. ....he couldn't inspire a pooh in a diarrhoea clinic. Tonight he was a total disgrace.

I do not comment a great deal, but I feel the need to voice my opinion. I agree with Hound that the main reason we are struggling is the lack of a good back line. You need a dominant figure at the back. We used to have Jones, who I still believe could of done a job for use this season. Our back line are slow, they are drawn out of position, they do not pick up and they ball watch, just to name a few faults. If the other side don't score you have won a point.

Fergie has inherited some poor players from the previous manager. These need showing the door. I hope we can avoid relegation, then Fergie can bring in his own choice of players and we can judge him on his own merits.

Cant see any points this weekend though

The highlights show that the defence did not engage with the Scunthorpe attackers. When they did stand between Scunthorpe and the goal, they did not man-mark, they merely watched from empty spaces and even then often left more even more unguarded territory for the attackers to run into.

When they did manage to keep pace and position themselves to tackle they could not do so successfully. There was one instance of Keegan making repeated unsuccessful attempts to pull an opponent down illegally to stop him working the ball down the right wing and then in towards the goal.

When we attacked we were outnumbered and properly challenged, often surrounded with defenders.

They were outclassed by a more skilful fitter team.

Even under Dickov, I cannot remember a match when the defensive performance was apparently so utterly inept.
