I think Friday night highlighted why we're likely to go down. Not only do we have sustained periods of playing dreadfully (and the second half was beyond dreadful) but we just don't get the breaks.
Although it might not seem like it, I really don't like complaining about referees but it's hard not to after Friday night. I will however defend one decision the ref made - I did think it was a freekick to Motherwell in the build up to their first goal. Dow did win the ball, but in the modern game you can't slide in straight on into an opponent anymore.
However, there's no defending the decision to keep Scott MacDonald on the park after his blatant elbow to Donaldson's face. He wasn't just using his elbow for leverage. He clearly made a movement with his elbow towards the United mans face and, given that the referee had a clear and unobstructed view of the incident, he should have walked. That decision would have changed the game.
I'll also criticise the referee for not sending off Paul Paton in second half stoppage time. He should have walked for that kick out at the player, even if it was borne out of frustration.
Beyond that, we played reasonably well in the first period and it was a terrific goal by Anier. The equaliser should have been dealt with, the United defensive line was far too deep and Szromnik came, decided against it and was caught in no mans land. If he'd stayed on his line he'd have had a simple catch. The second half we were dreadful and it was horrible defending by Gunning to allow them in behind to score.
It's looking grim again. We really can't afford results like Friday. We now go into the derby desperate for the three points and we'll need to be a lot better than we were then. A defeat on Sunday and it's definitely over.

If only you had Jackie Mac in the dug out. He would have saved you.
But no.
He was hounded out for being too Celticy and taigy.
Bigotted Orange teams are like that.

Out-managed by Mark McGhee twice. That's enough for anyone to resign.
