Do accounts mean anything?

Fox gone now.

Under this new Beta service you can view accounts which are of course abbreviated.

Interesting from the Strategic Report...

'The key risk facing any club in the Premier League is that of relegation.
The board attempts to mitigate this risk by providing the manager with first class training facilities and appropriate payroll and transfer budgets, and through generous support to the Academy.'

The operative word there is 'attempts'. I'm sure Paul Lambert would have plenty to say on that topic. The biggest risk though is appointing the right guy in the first place. McLeish and Sherwood were very questionable.

Hollis has just issued a statement on the Villa website. Very interesting read, covering most things, with more to come over the next week or two.

One statement about if we are relegated sticks out:

"If we are in the Championship we will be one of the biggest clubs in the Championship. We will certainly have the strongest balance sheet in the Championship. "

Seems from that the club is back on track financially, and the rather strange results from last season are a blip.

Strong Balance sheet is good.

But Income is going to drop dramatically and hence to keep that which Randy will want massive cuts on expenditure will be made too.

Balance Sheets are manipulated without knowing who the other subsidiaries are we dont know what is proper position.

I understand things at times have to be private but smoke screens are set up within business to make things look so much better

One thing I'm not sure is this; is TV money paid for the past season or for the forthcoming season. In other words, if we drop, will we still receive the TV cash for this last season at PL level, or will we just get a parachute payment? I may be wrong but I think we get a PL level TV payment.

All i do know mate is that football is dying at Grass Roots and everything revolves around money.

I know we are down and I may sound bitter but its a fact that the heart has gone out of the game and that is so sad

Just checked. We still get a PL payment for the past season. So last season QPR still received almost £65m despite being bottom; we should get at least that this year. Next year PL clubs will get around 50% more TV money.

So, we would get £65m summer 2016. Parachute payments of around £33m summer 2017, £27m summer 2018, £12m summer 2019 (if we don't get promoted).

In the best case scenario, if we come straight back up, then in summer 2017 we just get the £33m parachute payment rather than around £100m minimum PL payment. So there's a one-off loss of £67m effective summer 2017.

It's going to be a very fine judgement as to what we spend over the coming season. It's not disasterous, but we have to balance keeping a competitive squad with not running up too big a debt.

I reckon as far as existing players tied to a long term contract who we want to keep, we set a high price on their heads, because those PL clubs who want them will be able to afford to pay such a price (if they really want them) and our competitive Championship teams won't. Keep hold of them and we won't have to pay large sums to boost the squad if we get promoted.

The good part of Hollis's statement is ''I am leaving it to the football side of the Board to really work through what is going to work.', Not rocket science is it really. Fox had to go as there was nothing left for him to do.
