Subs:Ward, Toure, Benteke, Henderson, Skrtel, Smith, Ojo

Head-to-head

Liverpool won 6-1 on their last visit to St Mary's in the League Cup earlier this season, while they have also won on their last two Premier League visits.
The Saints haven't lost three successive Premier League games at home to Liverpool since December 1996.

Southampton
Southampton have lost just one of their last six Premier League games at St Mary's (W4, D1), although they have gone two games without a win.
Ronald Koeman's side have won 20 points from their last 10 games - only Leicester (23) and Tottenham (22) have claimed more.
If Fraser Forster keeps a clean sheet in this match, he'll be the fourth quickest goalkeeper to reach 20 clean sheets in the Premier League (currently 19 clean sheets in 40 games) after Petr Cech (26), Jose Reina (32) and Roy Carroll (37).
Southampton have scored a league-high 12 headed goals this season.

Liverpool
Liverpool are looking to win four successive Premier League games for the first time since March last year.
They are unbeaten in their last eight matches in all competitions (W5, D3).
They have scored 13 goals in their last four Premier League away games.
Christian Benteke needs one more goal to reach 50 in the Premier League. He has scored in each of his last two league games against Southampton.

I know people say you can't blame it all on one player, buy today was down to Skrtel completely in my book. Its defensive performances like that that drain away our confidence and Skrtel is the grim reaper of howlers.

The only mistake was bringing Skrtel on and not Toure.
if he had done that we would have won. He made three mistakes which led to the goals and gave a penalty away.

If you are going to blame Benteke then blame Allen as well for not making it 3-0.

We've been done by the referees as well, incredibly harsh to have the offside goal rule out and they never deserved a penalty either.

Doesn't excuse the fact when you are 2-0 up you have to get the three points if you want to challenge regardless of where you are playing.

Another sobering defeat on the crest of a wave, we've had a lot of these this season.

I think most of us are sensible, we lost because certai players aint good enough imo. Its thats simple, if Lovren stays on i think we win.

Many of our fans have been calling Skrtel as our best defender. I have never rated him. Facts his first game for Liverpool in the league cup against Havant & Waterlooville we conceded two goals and he was poor. The following year he was starting games. He had a terrible injury at Man City and then we never looked back and went on a good run and finished 2nd.
We sold the better cb Agger instead. He is a headless chicken. He makes every player around him shaky.

I have said the same about Henderson. Some are not happy but I think time will tell us Henderson is another Headless chicken. Gutted

Benteke among those who'll be made available in summer. Mignolet not guaranteed No 1. #LFC still interested in Götze, Udinese's Zielinski

Typical, won today we would be right there in the race for fourth.

We flucked it up though as per usual.

We are still in the race for 4th.

Outsiders but we are still in it.

5 of our next 6 at Anfield.

Need to replicate the recent City and Utd home performances.

Beat Spurs and things will look good again.

Today is a big blow, but it's not terminal yet because City keep being rubbish.
