Sequels - WHY ?

Very few are a patch on the original so WHY do they bother.
Sadly it boils down to simple greed to fleece the general public

Did the Chinese, having just finished the Great Wall think "it's good but why not build another one only half as good" ?
Did Leonardo da Vinci look at Mona Lisa and think "I should do another one, a more crap version as the World really needs Mona "Lisa 2" ?
Did Einstein come up with E=Mc3 as a sequel to his theory of relativity ?
Did the Pharoah who commissioned the Great Pyramid at Giza think "yeah it's OK but it's not quite Carling is it ?"

Some films they should consider making.

"The second greatest story ever told"
"Citizen Kane again"
"The fourth man"
"The magnificent eight"

Feel free to add your own

Going to make an unpopular call here but for me the Dark Knight is over rated. Take out an albeit masterful performance from Heath Ledger and that is one confused mess of a film

Third one was a bit garbled too imo, that copout ending kind of ruined it

Christian Bale is pretty awful in the Dark Knight. I thought it was over-rated as well.

Much prefered the first as it was the only true 'Batman'.

I thought about putting LOTR but they're all too good to choose a best and worst. Don't really feel like sequels either, just one continuous story.

I lost the will to live during LOTR 1 so went to sleep. It was just one bunch of Orcs/Auks ? after another and then the film just stopped in the middle no ending nothing All my fault for waking up

I agree with you But it wasn't as all over the shop as the last one, that plot was a total mess

I know the end seems a bit abrupt, but it's the point in that they separate from the rest of the fellowship and begin the next step of the journey to Mordor. Can't really have an 'end' given that it was part 1 of 3 books, I thought everyone knew this when going to watch the films

Walking dead can go on forever, run into some survivors, find a place to stay, encounter zombies, run away, few big characters die, run into new survivors, find a place to stay, encounter zombies, few characters die, repeat and so on.

Agree with this

Was really into TWD up to series 4 or so. But now they're just taking the pisss, so repetitive snd boring.

Find a stronghold, live there for a bit, kill a few walkers, defend from other humans.., .....cycle continues

Can we count the Star Wars prequel trilogy as sequels for the purpose of this article?

No

Reason being we need to erase them from memory altogether.

Like how the F did not only Lucas but all the othe rpeople who worked on that movie think Jar Jar Binks was a good idea.

I've heard it was to appeal to kids but my niece is 5 and she thinks he's ridiculous and asks why they didn't have another Yoda instead, she's clearly a very cool kid

Yes I knew it was a trilogy but I didn't pay to watch the trilogy, just one episode, which should stand up on it's own. All the Star Wars films are part of a series but each one has a BEGINNING a MIDDLE and an END

My other point here is if the film had flopped bigtime, they wouldn't have made the other 2. Surely it wasn't beyond the wit of the film makers to have devised an ending, very few films are 100% true to the books, thought they could have had an exploding helicopter or two and leave us wondering whether they survived or not.
