With apologies to Div 2 sides. For me the game was up on that miserable night in Scunthorpe. The team didn't just lose they were humiliated. It was the mother of all two-goal thrashings and I haven't seen them play since. By then I had seen enough awful football for a lifetime never mind a season. Once we were relying on other teams to lose, and last night they didn't, what was clear to me in Scunthorpe should have been clear to all - Rovers will start next season in Div 2. Is Fergie the man to bring us up again? Based on what I have seen, which is backed up by comments from Peterbrough supporters, plus stories of disputes with players for me the answer is no. To get us up he would have to replace most of the side, probably on a shoe-string and his record doesn't suggest that he is capable of doing this. Never mind the away strip, it is time to get rid and bring in a new manager.

As to the question - something has to change. Like Azza, I would give Fergie until Christmas. I think he has enough about him and if he can get the right staff in and get a good pre-season, I still think that we could have a good few years ahead of us. If he can't get it right by Christmas, then I think we have to accept that he's not going to turn it around.

Hound: You say "i am far from being in the minority this time."
I do not think that Majorities and Minorities can be your strongest subject.
Albi and you say sack him which is a grand total of 2.
The following seem to share my view: IPelDRFC, Azza, Crazy (4 in all with me)
Aussie Lad, and BVZ have not committed.
Newyankee said before the Rochdale match: "Like Donaldo I also felt that where we are is hurting Ferguson as much as it is us supporters. Whatever happens I hope he gets a similar length of time to get things right as did SoD and Dickov"
So that’s 5 to 2.
Pirate on the same thread said "In the meantime I hope I’m wrong, that Fergie sees us stay up via a winning goal in added time on the last game of this season. He then goes on to build a promotion chasing team next season."
That makes 6 on my side of the fence and 2 on yours, so I am sorry to disappoint you but I think that in terms of views expressed so far you are mistaken.

The one person who HAS to go is the useless first team coach brought in by Dickov, Paul Butler. He seems top me to be the LCD in both managements.

seems to be, not top be!!!!

So donaldo, the world of Rovers fans is confined to 606 then.
Have a look on the vsc site and you may get a different look at it.
It doesnt alter the fact though that you are very much against me or anyone else having a go at DF.

Fergie to get a pre season to build his own team. Then if not in top 3 come Christmas, time for a change.
WE STILL CAN STAY UP.
Need to lay down now....... 😂

I am not against anyone Hound. If I'm wrong I'll admit it. And of course I refer only to this thread. I do not have the inclination to trawl around to see who else might agree with me beyond what is the obvious context of this debate.
Clearly it sounds as though the VSC would be a more suitable arena to air your views if you wish to find a more sympathetic audience. I hope no one upsets you there.

No one upsets me here don, although possibly the opposite appears to be true with you (here we go again).
I actually dont trawl around the vsc site either, i read it and contribute if i feel the need to do so.

How many managers have left us and gone on to better things.
I will kick it off and say SOD.
Bremner?
A few weeks ago I said he had to go.
At this stage of the season I think maybe give him 6 or 8 gsmes in League 2 and see what things are like then

Yes NY, I really cannot understand why Butler is still there. I also go along with those who see the value of experienced players with character to provide role models. SOD introduced several who were either in the twilight of their careers or whose ability was only moderate, but who had the kind of maturity that was an example to the rest.
Young Strachan as coach is surely a better bet than Butler.
It was very sad for me to see Rob Jones go - almost ignominiously. Given the obvious strength of his personality some might see him as a challenge to their authority, but he was someone who seemed instinctively loyal and who I would have thought a confident manager would find to be a huge ally and influence for good in and around the club.
