Refereeing mistakes

So this weekend I've actually had the time to watch some football for once with no work and I can't believe just how many mistakes there have been in the 3 televised matches alone.

West Ham vs Arsenal we had a perfectly legitimate goal ruled out for offside and also saw Carroll get away with a second booking and sending off when he elbowed Gabriel in the kisser. whilst it wasn't deliberate, it is a second yellow regardless, his elbows have no need to be that high and pointing out to the sides, whilst it's an honest mistake it can cause some serious damage.

Man City vs West Brom saw my team (WBA) denied a clear penalty when Mangala jumped straight through the back of Sandro, how on earth the referee or his linesman deemed it not a foul I will never know. It must now be legal to just jump straight into the back of people with no chance of ever winning the ball for what would of been a free header.

Sunderland vs Leicster again 2 stone wall penalties not given. Yedlin clearly gets non of the ball and catches his man square in the chest, is this another new rule that has passed us by in secret, are you now allowed to jumping roundhouse kick your man? Then there is Huth who intentional or not stops a dangerous ball across with his supporting arm, it's away from his body (significantly so) and it's clearly passed all the way underneath him, it's clearly a penalty.

Now this is just from the 2.5 games aired this weekend, there could of been more I never spotted or have forgotten but these decisions are beyond a joke. I'm not remembering former years with rose tinted glasses am I? I honestly can't say I've ever known the Premier League have so many refereeing blunders in it's existence, just what has happened for these peoples decision making to be so horrendously bad? I genuinely can't think of a single referee I rate as decent let alone good, with so much money about you'd think they could afford to fund conclusive training to a high enough standard. With the prices fans have to pay these days and the money on the line for the clubs these mistakes should not be happening anywhere near the rate that they are.

Totally agree Coxie. The standard of refereeing is very poor and often favours the bigger clubs particularly when they play at home.

In the City v West Brom game the ref totally bottled what was a stone-wall penalty when Sandro was bundled over from behind which was far clearer penalty than the one given against us.

The referees philosophy must be, big club at home, big crowd, mustn't upset them and their Arab masters.

You've stolen my thunder Pulispower. Another week, more refereeing mistakes. We were on the wrong end of of monumentally bad one this time, possibly two. It was ever thus,I'm afraid. It is never going to change so long as football matches are refereed by men not machines.

Now I can't legislate for Mike Homes eyesight. A checkup is clearly overdue.
However the offside rule is bloody ridiculous. Lanzini's goal was good and should have stood.Every week there are goals given when they shouldn't be and not given when they should. Every week. It is unworkable and like Lbw in cricket it needs the benefit of DRS to aid the referee and reduce mistakes.

If it wasn't for generous referees, Albion would have 12 points less - check the stats

.....and still wouldn't be in the bottom 3...

You win some and lose some. Dunno how the Sandro assault wasn't a pen though...

There's a lot of old cräp talked about how it levels out over the season.

No it doesnt.

If a team gets a few bad decisions at the wrong time, they can be dragged into a relegation fight - or escape from one if they get a few lucky decisions. That can then effects the whole of the rest of their season if, for example, a manager is sacked. And so on.

Like with stoppage time, it is wayyyyyyy past time that clocks and cameras were introduced like they have been in Rugby and Cricket.

No-one wants football to become American Football where there is nothing but stoppage time, but it is beyond a joke now and the technology is clearly there!

I agree with the comments about time-added-on.

Often thought why it wasn't possible to use the same system as they do in rugby.

Apparently Uncle Herbore went to a Wolves home game last weekend for the first time in 23 years,
I wonder if he's got the stats for the points Albion would have won this season but for refereeing mistakes.
Of course he hasn't. He hasn't got ANY stats.
I'll start him off. Albion vs Everton, Albion vs Leicester.
