Financial Fairplay

I just wanted to throw this one out there for discussion. I'd be interested to hear thoughts on the following. I've recently been reading Uefa's guide to their Financial Fairplay regulations that are due to be implemented at the beginning of 2012/13 season. I had been under the impression that we would be facing severe disciplinary action if we didn't comply. However (and please correct me if I'm wrong), it appears to me that the only consequence of operating outside of these regulations is omission from Europen competition. While I think the directors long-term objective should be to make the club financially solvent, I'm failing to see how the Uefa Financial Fairplay regulations apply to us while we are still in the Championship. Statistics suggest that the income generated by being in the Premier league would radicalise our finances and see us operating at a level well within the Uefa rules. In light of this the current penny-pinching ethos the board has adopted seems absurd, especially considering how close we've come the last two seasons. My question is; did Leicester not get the memo, or did they just read it properly?

There will be clubs who will not agree to the rules

Correct me if i'm wrong but UEFA's fair play rules are specifically for the premiership. The N power leagues come under a different FFP

There'll be a vote Wassa, you can't have some teams being restricted while others aren't.

So, u could say by investing in our infrastructure rather than transfers, Doughty is making a shrewd decision.

Leicester fan in peace.

Despite our current situation, this is exactly the kind of thing I've been calling for for years. I'm not sure about putting a cap on transfer fees, because they /should/ come from an owner's pocket rather than the club, but wages certainly need to be capped across the board.

I honestly believe we've got very lucky and landed owners who are honourable in their intentions, but if something were to happen then, with all the money they're paying out in wages, we could land in serious trouble. It may sound like double standards, but I welcome this.

What would happen to you lot if it does come in and you don't go up? I still haven't seen what the penalities are and don't know how they can be imposed the following season unless clubs have already been warned that this will happen next season.

LloydX - I'm not sure. I would have thought they'd have difficulty trying to affect existing contracts, and if anyone does try to change a contract, whether it be the club if pre-warned or the League with new regulations over the club's head, the lawyers will have a field day. If you're asking whether the clubs have been appropriately warned about all this, obviously I don't know that either - although given the lack of reporting I suspect that very little is already in place.

Unfortunately, the whole thing does seem to have "approaching shambles" written all over it.
