LVG & Woodward Mugging Off The Fans

And getting away with it.

How LVG can be allowed to say that the third richest club in the world who have spent 240m in just two years (more than in Leicester City's entire history) has expectations that are too high is beyond me.

How Woodward can sit there like a numpty, appearing to lack any sort of decisiveness about United's on field future and not face any real criticism from match going fans is also beyond me.

van Gaal has to be the most deluded man on the face of the planet. Genuinely think his own ego drowned out his ability to hear the boos yesterday. He had the cheek to say with such defiance that United were top (IN BLOODY SEPTEMBER!!!) and it was only injuries that destabilised the title charge.

I don't know if United are intending to keep him on, but he is certainly intending to stay on and I just hoped that fans would have shonw a bit more vigour in the LVG Out campaign, because at the moment I think it's too tame for Woodward or even LVG to take note/even care.

...............

Maybe you are just too thick to understand the context of his comment. You are not alone.

You and everyone else it seems.

Try this approach...Define what the expectations are to which LVG is referring and then critique his statement again.

It seemed clear to me that his viewpoint is directly related to the fact that the team is in transition. This is clear by the fact that it was his very next statement (twice) after mentioning the expectations of the fans being too high.

I.e. when he says expectations are too high, what he is saying is that the fans expect too much too soon. He is not saying that fans should not have high expectations, he is simply trying to say that it takes time to build a team.

This is clear to anyone who actually listens to him talk instead of just reading the sensationalist tabloid version of what he said.

Some have chosen to translate his comments to mean that a top 4 finish is expecting too much. However, the truth is that LVG never said that or even implied it.

By all means criticise what he said - but at least make some effort to understand what he said first.

Misty, to be fair you expect too much from them

You need to lower your expectations on this board when it comes to intelligent discourse

Fair point MUDD...I might as well be talking double dutch...

Next thing they will make a comment and attribute it to you.

When you read the stupid comment, you know deep down you did not say it or the comment has been taken out of context.

They believe that is debate

I just expect that now tbh. It's one of the reasons I filtered so many people this season. I can't be bothered to have to defend against a point I never made just because someone is too dumb to understand what I wrote in plain English!

With LVG people twist his words even more because his English isn't perfect like mine...

September 12 2014: “Yes, it is possible [winning the Premier League this season]. This is because we have to play a lot matches and we are not so much behind.

“We have spoken about the target when we [Van Gaal and Woodward] had the meetings together. A club like Manchester United needs to put targets and I also put targets. I don’t think it is unreasonable target [to finish in the top three].

“Whether it is difficult is another question, but a club like United must always put a target. Within the top three is logical because United always want to be in the Champions League. But we have to produce results, starting on Sunday against QPR."

September 15 2014: “I want to win the Premier League title. If it is not this year then the second or third year. I want to give a championship to the fans."

December 25 2014: “The best achievement is to be champions because our goal is still to be champions at the end of the season, that’s also the best result.

“We are looking in a football world where No.1 is the most important thing. Our goal is to be first. But it’s not always so easy, you can see that.

“That’s why the board have said that our goal is within the first four places. But with my players and all the staff, we are trying to achieve more than they expect from us."

May 1 2015: “The board of Manchester United have given me three years for that objective (winning the title). This year we have not challenged but we are very close to second and third. Chelsea are far above but next year is different. Next year it will be a different squad but so will all the other teams like Chelsea, Liverpool Arsenal and City and all the others will be different. But you have seen our matches against the top clubs and there is not a big gap."

2015/16 pre-season notes to supporters: "My first season at the club was a step forward because we finished fourth and returned to European football. The aim always has to be to improve. None of us will be happy to finish in the fourth position every year, so we must continue to get better."

"In transition"

1. One of the reasons why we are still "in transition" is because Van Gaal's signings have not formed the backbone of a new team. In fact, his strongest XI at the moment only includes Blind and Martial, I think. The likes of Di Maria, Schneiderlin, Darmian, Rojo, Herrera and Memphis have all, for whatever reason, failed to cement a place in the team. At this rate of success with transfers, Van Gaal could stay for ten years and we'd never be out of transition.

2. Next season, Liverpool, Chelsea and City can all be said to be "in transition". Can we expect to finish above all three? I doubt it, right now.

I do understand "the context" of what he's said. But he must be very stupid indeed if he thinks he can say what he did, and not get considerable flak for it, when

a) Leicester City have just won the league and
b) United have demonstrably gone backwards and missed out on CL football.

These comments are far worse than anything Moyes said and the worst part is where he says he will have to make himself clearer in the future. So if we go into next season with him as manager, what is he saying we can expect to achieve?

Fair point. Injuries haven't helped but this point is one of the main reasons LVG needs to go. We can't get our transfers wrong this summer and who will want to sign for a manager who is going to leave in a year or sooner?

I disagree with that. For starters, we were PL champions when Moyes was in charge. That sort of context matters imo.
