How is it decided? Is it just youth products who retire here?
Surely Mr Carrick has earned one if he retires at the end this season
Thoughts, or if like many on here you can't think things all the way through, feel free to type the usual mindless drivel I joke, of course
Who gets a testimonial?

Testimonials are outdated, 10 years at a club and you get REWARDED with the gate receipts to sort you out with a lump sum for your uncertain future, do these millionaires really need a testimonial?

Don't the proceeds go to charity nowadays?

Depends on the layer and his testimonial committee.

Just on that, I saw muhammed ali's brother on the news yesterday and they were having a collection for him in his church so he could buy a suit for his brother's funeral

I think Carrick has just completed his tenth season with us. Looks like he's going to play one more and then I'd guess he'll be retiring.
He's won the PL five times , FA Cup, League Cup and CL with us, as well as picking up a small collection of individual honours.
He'll get a testimonial. Great servant.

I think Niall Quinn was the first footballer to give his testimonial money to charity and apparently it made him extremely unpopular with other players.

I think testimonials were intended back in the day to reward long serving players with a lump sum so that they could afford a pub or something like that to provide them with some sort of income after playing. Back when players used to catch the bus with fans to the games and wages weren't much higher than the average working wage.
Seems wrong now for PL players to have a testimonial and not donate it to charity.

Definately going to Rooney's, that guy must be struggling make ends meet. Only thing a true fan could do to pay him back for his unquestionable loyalty.

Pretty sure Ryan Giggs donated a portion of his testimonial.
