Can anybody tell me why we are not in for Gonzalo Higuain?
It is very obvious that Wenger's decision not to sign him a few years ago is one of his biggest ever (in my opinion, THE biggest) transfer blunder he has made. Now previously, I have argued it wasn't feasible to dish out £40M or so on a 28 year old turning 29 this year, but if Wenger is willing to dish out £20M on Jamie facking Vardy then that excuse goes out the window.
Since the minute I read the rumors on Vardy, I've hoped this deal wouldn't happen - why spend £20M on a man turning 30 in a few months that has only ever had 1 top quality season in a very short professional career? Sure, he is an improvement on Giroud, but not significantly enough that I could confidently say Vardy would be our number 1 striker next year and Giroud would be warming the bench.
I do wonder sometimes what sort of dirt Giroud has on Arsene. A few years ago Giroud was quoted as saying he wouldn't be happy with Higuain joining as they are too similar. Yet when Suarez and Vardy were linked he was very happy because those players 'compliment' him. It looks like no matter what, Giroud is going to be our main CF next season, whether Vardy joins or not. And if that is the case, I'd rather him not join at all, even if he is better than Giroud, because like Welbeck and Theo, he'll just end up on the flanks playing 2nd fiddle in a position that won't get the best out of him.
This is Arsene's last season here for sure, and the fact he is still afraid to really take that gamble, and bring in a £40M+ man in the pomp of his career, like Ferguson did with RVP, just shows that he is the one that has a fear of failure. Hell, it doesn't even have to be Higuain. It could be somebody like Sturridge, playing at a club miles behind us, but a club we have the mentality we can't cherry pick from. He's fooled Arsenal fans for years that we are paupers battling it out with princes, just to mask his own failures as a manager - and to this day, the majority of Arsenal fans still eat it all up!
Wenger fears failure

I agree id rather have Vardy over sturridge for fitness reasons alone, but Arsenal should be looking at top quality atrikers like Higuain, not one season wonders like Vardy

Vardy would be a better signing than Higuain.
Just because he doesn't have a fancy name doesn't mean he isn't a proven premiership striker who bagged 24 goals last season.

Didn't Marcus Stewart once bang in 20 goals in a season? What happened afterwards exactly???

This is exactly what I'm struggling to understand from aggressive Arsenal fans who think those of us skeptical about a man with just one season of quality behind him are "plastic" or "arrogant." These same Arsenal fans laughed at Spurs unrelentingly when they signed a 22 year old Darren Bent who'd hit 22 and 15 goals for awful Charlton sides and had shown an abundance of potential for £16m, yet Vardy is apparently a masterstroke at 30 years of age and just one good season behind him.
I honesty fail to understand why being underwhelmed and tentative about Vardy - a Vardy who isn't even sure about wanting to come to us - is such an affront.

I like you both so I'm not taking sides, but in what way is this article pointless? Or indeed any more pointless than any of the other articles that appear on this board? It's a discussion board and bats is at least eliciting discussion with an article that is a little more than just "Wenger out."

This article is so strange. In fact the entire reaction to vardy has been utterly bizzare from our fans. £20 million is an absolute pittance, just slightly more than we paid for Chambers just to put in perspective, for the most talked about player of the previous season. The record holder and who was certainly the catalyst for Leicesters out of this world triumph. 24 facking league goals dispite missing end of season, whens th e last time we had someone who did that. It's a signal of intent a show of dominance over a team that just won the league.
Its actually as if fans are angry we are signing a player after being angry about not signing one last year. The situation with our fans has become so ridiculous that every single action of the team is scrutinised and criticised to the nth degree. Who gives a fack how old he is, we need someone who is ready right now someone who knows how to score. If united had bought kane after his first season would their fans have behaved in this manner because he had only one good season and several mediocre ones?

So true and the WOB's especially take the opportunity to criticise Wenger for buying in a position that we short of.

£20M for Vardy is probably good value and it is a deal that could work out if it happens. But why go for a player who has had one good season in his career, opposed to one who has scored 20 goals or more in 6 of the last 8 seasons? Not to mention this player scored 39 goals last season, is younger than Vardy, has played in European competition and has played for one of Europe's elite before. If anybody would rather have Jamie Vardy than Higuain they are insane or a liar. As for United fans and Kane, just like Arsenal fans on Vardy, some would be happy, some would be skeptical, some would be unhappy. The difference is that Kane is only a kid with plenty of time on his side and resale value if the deal goes tiiits up. If Vardy flops that's £20M down the drain and £120K a week we won't get off our wage bill for the next 4 years.
