Rooney and England?

This is not an article questioning the man's talent.

But i am interested to know if even if he's our most talented player. Could he be left out for the "good of the team"?

I appreciate that question may not make sense. But.................

Although i wasn't there, I keep hearing Sir Alf in '66 "didn't pick the best 11 players available to him.........but picked players to suit the style he wanted England to play.........." And this resulted in "better players being left out".

Should Roy take that risk with Rooney?

It does sound pretty harsh, when you consider that he'd be leaving out England's all time record goal scorer. And if he were left out and things went disastrously the annihilation Roy would receive off our press (front and back page if it weren't for the EU referendum) would mean he'd have to emigrate to Antarctica to escape.

I don't know what the answer is. I do believe his best tournament for England remains '04' when he was a 19 year old boy.

I find it funny people want Rooney dropped just because he is a Man Utd player. Some of the players that made England squad is criminal.

Nothing to do with playing for Man Utd. He definitely deserves to be in the squad but he's simply being shoehorned into this England side and I think that will become quite obvious as this tournament progresses.

However good Rooney can be, the fact remains he is part of the underperforming group of players that were given chance after chance and failed time after time. None of the old guard deserve a moment on the pitch

...........
Playing with dross midfielders doesn't help. Look at CL final 2008 players SAF used then look at euro 2008 Croatia qualifier game players.

Rooney has been the worse of the dross, completely out of his depth at International Finals Tournament, should have been dumped with the rest of the underperforming Golden Generation. I am sure Kane, Vardy and England`s other strikers would have had a field day against some of the group cannon fodder.

scrappy goal for wales

Well, Gentleman Roy took Rooney off today, just in time. The England team then stood around ball watching while the Russians headed it into the net for a very undeserved draw.
Wot a fookkking shower!

Rooney was a schitt on top of an ebola infested wet schitt today

Thing is, the England team is so used to having Rooney on the pitch that they don't know wot to do when he's off.
The team does need a captain.
So.... who takes over?
Answer that!

Hard to answer that Ted! (What a great 'keeper he was by the way).

Does Kane take all the corners for Spurs?

He should be in the box - not taking corners

Did think all the other Spurs boys played well - especially Walker, so not all bad.

Carrick normally takes over Rooney as captain.
