They need to back up their words with actions. How many times has russia been involved in racist chants and nothing gets done about it.

Surely they can just say sorry and we all move on?

Meanwhile, a senior Russian Football Union official and ultra-nationalist politician said the country's fans were right to fight England supporters.

Igor Lebedev, who sits on the RFU executive committee and is also a deputy speaker in parliament, said on Twitter: "I don't see anything wrong with fans fighting."

"Quite the opposite, the guys did well. Keep it up!" the member of the ultra-nationalist Liberal Democratic Party of Russia said.

Mr Lebedev said the violence was "not the fans' fault". He blamed the French police's "inability to organise such events".

This is the type of cant Putin has in place

Would they mean it though? I very much doubt it.

I don't know. We'd probably have to bring in the same impartial body that declared Griffiths apology to be fair.

Alternatively you could do it. I imagine your experience as a top lawyer would be invaluable
