Surplus to requirements?

Since goal-line technology is in use at the Euro Championships, what is the role of the goal-line officials? They obviously don't call offsides, don't call any of the numerous infractions in the box at dead ball situations and I've never seen any of them in any competition they are used in, call a goalkeeper for advancing off his line at penalty kicks. So.... what exactly is their purpose when it is video technology that determines whether or not a goal is scored?

And...on the subject of the holding, grabbing and mauling that goes on in the penalty area at corners and free-kicks, why is it that 90% of the time the referee rules in favour of the defender? That surely is totally disproportionate.
