So what do we do now?

If this was your club and it had been run by an inept chairman for 20 years you would probably be part of a fan protest

How do the FA keep getting away with it? Surely they are ultimately responsible for the state of our international football team and its continued failures?

Appointing McClaren, Hodgson, Capello and anyone else whose face is deemed to fit. Next it's Southgate, we all know how it will end

Blaming the premier league for their own failures to get a structure in place that works

Look at the German FA. Is it run by an ex BBC executive?

Anyone fancy a march to the FA headquarters? should we boycott the next England match??

I'd probably give it to Guus, if only for the interim period.

Yes I couldn’t believe it when I started seeing the clamour to give Glenn Hoddle another go. You only have to listen to his punditry for some insight into his managerial acumen. The thing is that we’d actually be more difficult to beat with Allardyce or Pulis at the helm.

I think previously there was an over expectation of the England team. We went into tournaments with a far inferior squad to other countries and it was only a matter of time before we were exposed.

The frustrating thing now is that in the last two tournaments there is no reason why we shouldn’t have done reasonably well. There are no great sides out there and some of the so called giants have players in their sides that aren’t even the greatest in the Premier League. Look at France with Giroud or Italy with Pelle.

What all these other teams do well is they always turn up to tournaments with a clear identity and idea how they are going to play. The Dutch with their 3-4-3, the Spanish with their tippy tappy possession, the Italians with their rock solid defence and the Germans with their efficient style. We haven’t got a clue.

I do sometimes wonder whether England should establish a clear identity. This is us and this is how we’re going to play. It might be high energy, 4-4-2 and concede possession and play with power and pace on the break. Every player called up would have his clear role and understanding of what was expected from him.

Teams all over the world have been successful with all sorts of systems. 4-4-2 is now considered backward and 4-2-3-1 is the new vogue. It’s not the system that’s as important as the identity, the understanding and that the team are all playing together and understand exactly what’s expected from each other. The national team could learn an awful lot from Leicester City.

Glenn Hoddle talking down at Iceland because they dared to take long throws, what did he call it, 80's football ! WTF

McLaren talking up England, how well we're doing all the while Iceland scored the winner and he didn't even notice till it went in.

Fans talking about quarter finals with
France.

It's this completely unfounded arrogance that is the problem with England Football, throw in the FA, incompetent Managers, prima Donna players and loutish fans and you have the issues that will probably never be adequately addressed.

I thought it was somewhat appropriate that some wag, last night on a local radio station, played the Bonny Tyler hit 'Lost in France'.

The thought of Glenn Hoddle returning to the fold is horrendous, and that's before you get to his views on faith healing and disabled people (which he may or may not still hold).

But just listening to him tactically, he seemed to be lauding everything that was wrong about England in this tournament. Imagine what we're currently doing but even more boring, even less inspired, even less of a goal threat and you have what England would be under Glenn Hoddle. I would rather have a watermelon in charge. I would rather have [pluck random username from JA606] in charge. He would be the worst of a list of terrible appointments, and yet he got the highest vote on the BBC Sportsday poll earlier today.

Absolute, comprehensive No.

FA need to be facked off and replaced. It drains me of all optimism hearing that suited caaant that has no footballing background reel out the same platitudes in the press conference.

And they don't have to answer to anyone. It's like fackin Blatter at Fifa.

The country is a mess with abysmal leadership putting their own interests before the country.
Our national team is a mess with leaders putting their own egos before the good of the country b

Thank heavens for Leicester, Top and Vichai. Without this last season I might have topped myself by now.

There is no quick answer to the debacle, we need strong leadership and a clear plan for reform executed over a 10 year plan.

I fear with the suggestion of Gareth Southgate, we're just in for more of them same.

And people wonder why we've disengaged with the England team. There is nothing to like about them. No redeeming features. Ok, may be pity but that's it.

I'm out.

I'm old enough to remember when England won the World Cup in '66 and Italy were knocked out early, being beaten on the way by North Korea. I'd put England's defeat to Iceland in the same category.

The difference is that when the Italy team flew home in disgrace, they had to go through the airport with all the other passengers and were all pelted with rotten fruit etc., at the airport by enraged supporters. Compare that to England's team who landed at Luton and were all whisked through to their chauffeur-driven limos, avoiding any chance of running the gauntlet of any annoyed and disappointed supporters. Therein lies the problem - they are protected and cocooned and kept separate from the "real" world that their fans inhabit. If they could experience at first-hand how much their poor performances have affected England supporters perhaps it might give them a wake-up call.
