According to reports in France, the 31-year-old player has decided to hang up his boots in order to care for his son, who has been diagnosed with cancer.
sad news , I thought in his prime he was a very good squad player , trickery , clever footballer and a good finisher. He made his own impact in the premierleague and even in his last few years at Sunderland he scored goals and created them. Best whishes to his son and the family.

To be fair football is one of the only jobs where you could do this, with the amount of money he gets. Most other people would have to arguably work harder.. But good on him. I hope his son gets better, nice to see he recognises there's more to just football

Having gone through the sort of trauma a father never wishes to go through with both of his kids, I can empathise with the guy, there are times you feel despair beyond belief.
I wish his son a speedy recovery, and the family the strength to deal with what are going to be some very trying times for them all
