That Big Sam has been appointed as the new England manager,is there even any point in playing any games really?Probably not!
I fully expect to see us playing a 4-4-2 with Andy Carroll and Peter Crouch up front, plus a full recall for Rory Delap complete with a new towel sporting the three lions logo!
What a dream appointment, the good times are back and about to roll...
Hand us the World Cup now...

Ireland international Rory Delap?
A 4-4-2 with Carroll and Crouch would probably get us further in a tournament than what we have achieved for 20 years.

"Ireland international Rory Delap?"
He probably has a cockernee accent anyway, like most of the Republic's team normally has!

Now that Big Sam has been appointed, there is as much point watching England as there has been for the best part of 20 years.
We still probably wont win a major tournament because, hey, our players arent that good.
What I would like to think is that our players would be too scared of putting it a gutless, effortless, limp wristed apology of performance like they did against Iceland if it was Sam waiting for them in the dressing room.
I would also point out that his specialty is teams hanging around the bottom end of the big boys' table - ie not much of a threat to the elite, but solid enough to beat the dead wood, and every now and again put in a workmanlike performance and pull off an upset.
And more to the point, England have emphatically failed for the last 10 years and arguably underachieved for the 10 years before that. Something new is the way forward surely?
Really, we should actually lower our expectations. Properly. We are not that good. Say it and believe it. When you truely believe it you wont get upset about us appointing Allardyce - he has as much chance of getting our best out of us as anybody. And who bleedin knows, with a good manager at our level, working under realistic expectations with the support and understanding of the nation behind him, may pull off a few upsets and get us to out perform ourselves (kinda like Wales, Iceland etc....) at the next tournament.
But that wont happen. Because he will get a complete rinsing by the press after every loss, he will get a complete rinsing by the fans after every less than perfect performance, and the players will be built up, rinsed up and spat out in the next 2 to 4 years.
Manager sacked. Repeat cycle.
How I would love to be wrong...

This. THIIIISSSS!!!!
Except hopefully without the last bit. We're guano. Have been for years. The sooner we accept it and find a way to progress, the better. DJ is probably accurate with that comment too- Crouch had a cracking international strike rate. But we never want to see the big carthorse type, we want to see little silky, skilful players like them there furrigners have. Well tough crap, we're a nation of cloggers!
Embrace it! You'll feel much better!

Definitely about time we see some Mike Bassett-style England management and Big Sam is just the man for that job, albeit in a Black Countraaaayyyy accent not a Scouse one!
