The world we now live in...

I witnessed something yesterday that I never would have dreamt could or would happen. I was in the area of the King Power having attended a meeting in Leicester and thought I would pop into the Club Shop to see what celebratory merchandise was available for the forthcoming Community Shield game.

Outside was a coach load of Italian teenagers having a group photo taken of themselves in front of the stadium. I heard their group leader then inform then they could have 1/2 hour in the shop whereupon they descended upon the merchandise with abandon snapping up relica shirts, shorts, scarves, posters and just about every other kind of memorabilia imaginable.

Now Arsenal, Chelsea, Man Utd fans etc are now doubt used to this global interest in their club but I was completely bemused. Less than 3 years ago we were still in the Championship and I doubt very much that many, if any, of said Italian teenagers had even heard of Leicester let alone the football club.

Not knocking it at all. All are welcome to worship at the feet of the newly crowned champions of England. It just made me realise once again what an incredible achievement lasr season was and how it has transformed the club in the eyes of the world - at least for the time being.

Last season was such a great achievement, it stil hasnt really sunk in.
Today is the 50th anniversary of England winning the world cup. ! was 8 and remember it well.Yet it really pales into insignificance compared with our season.
I still look at all the scenes of our achievement on you tube, and it still moves me to tears
Quite simply nothing will ever be the same.
My ex-wife(thank god) used to say its only a game, it isnt, i have had all emotions and highs and lows in 50 years , our beloved club will never be the same ever again.
Champions of Europe --- well maybe ??

I have been to Thailand each year for the last 3 years. Last year when i walked into Bagkok airport I was amazed at the huge Leicester store as soon as I walked through the door. The year before that store had Utd, Liverpool & Chelsea memorabilia.

I think that's more to do with the fact that Leicester's owner owns King Power who operate airport shops, as opposed to it being directly related to Leicester's achievement.

I was on holiday in Cornwall last week and out of all the premier league clubs the shirt I saw the most was Leicester, no word of a lie I've never seen anything like it. Spotted 6 in Padstow alone, and I don't include myself in that as I had mine on that day too!

Great post.

I've not noticed a great change up here in the north west other than my mates being chuffed for me and everyone wanting a bit of me - "he's a real Leicester fan you know" they will say to people!!

I love the Italian connection personally. I hope we create a "Little Italy" Amin Leicester, and maybe a "Little Leicester" in Italy!

Very strangely, the Italians seem very taken with us because of the Ranieri connection and I for one am quite enjoying it.

A relative of mine was in Bangkok in April and a local man cried to her when she said she was from Leicester. Nuts
