A lot of this sort of stuff goes on but its not deemed newsworthy. A friend of mine who had cancer as a kid in the early 80's when he lived in Liverpool was taken into the Liverpool dressing room with the whole team, went to a match as a VIP and was given one of the shirts worn by one of the players in the 1981 European Cup final (I think) signed by all the players. He met a lot of other sports stars as well including all the top snooker players of the time like Steve Davis, Alex Higgins, Jimmy White, etc.
