The Terrors completed their group and progressed to a last 16 home meeting with Partick Thistle with a solid victory over last seasons runaway League One winners Dunfermline.

It was by no means spectacular but I thought it was a good solid win against decent opposition. They had a spell in the latter stages of the first half where they did well, but beyond that we controlled the game imo.

It's pleasing to see the progress we're making on the park and the manager deserves a lot of credit. He's worked hard and got the right players in and it's pleasing to hear that he is still hoping to bring more in, although this is dependent on players moving on. I think the club as a whole are working hard to be honest with the fans and I think Ray encapsulates that.

I'll go through the players one by one:

Bell - His hesitancy to come off his line concerns me. We were up against a big team and he could have taken the pressure off the defence by coming out but chose not to, leaving us to try to win headers on the six yard line. He did pull off a couple of terrific saves to keep his first competitive clean sheet.

Toshney - I've been impressed up to now with him but I thought he didn't play well yesterday. Hopefully just an off-day.

Durnan - Not the best player in the world but I thought he did ok. Improved as the game wore on and dealt with the big lads at set pieces.

Donaldson - I don't like his attitude. I don't like that he comes on to the park and waves to his pals in the stand rather than getting his focus on the game. I thought he was slow with his distribution in the first half but improved in the second and had a good game.

Robson - Did really well. Looks far more ready for first team action than he was when he was thrown in by Jackie. It's good to know we have backup for Dixon and hopefully he can put pressure on him for a place in the team.

Murdoch - I like Murdoch. He got involved with Higginbotham (who was lucky to stay on the park) but I don't mind that. He's got a bit of tenacity about him and he can use the ball better than the players he has replaced in the team.

Flood - Man of the match for me. His energy is fantastic and he broke up the play brilliantly. A terrific signing.

Fraser - I like Fraser. I like the fact he wants to get on the ball and try to make things happen. Yes he holds on to it too long at times but he'll improve, especially with older heads around him. Scored a good freekick.

Obadeyi - Again, I like him. He has pace and is direct. Maybe not his most effective game yesterday but he'll continue to improve and be a threat.

Van Der Velden - A very good player. He's also a good character to have on the park to help the younger players. Tired as the game wore on but a good performance.

Murray - showed once again that he's a better instinctive finisher than when he's got time. Good to see him on the scoresheet again though and I expect 20+ goals from him this campaign.

All in all it's been a good group phase for us and we look ready for QotS next week.

For anyone interested, there was a good piece on the manager in the record/sunday mail at the weekend:

Curly

Really pleased with him and the way he's conducted himself over the summer. He always speaks well, he's pretty direct and you can see that he has a clear vision for his team.

Being a local guy with a feeling for the club can sometimes be a hindrance but for him it seems to galvanise him.

I'm not going to make any bold predictions about winning the league or anything like that, but you feel like we've bottomed out and are now starting to move forward again after a tough 18 months.

Wow what on earth made him pick that bet!

On the subject of your boss i think he will do a job. HE had Raith Playing nice football but could also set them up to be well organised and hard to beat when that was needed instead.

You thought Donaldson played well!? He looked a total bombscare to me. Weak, slow, poor positioning and just lazy.

Very nice to have Flood back though. If he stays fit he's likely our most important player.

I thought he was better in the second half. Perhaps saying he had a good game was a bit strong....he was ok.

Loads I don't like about him. Waving to his pals rather than focusing on the game. Rolling about injured every time he gets hit rather than getting on with it. I am very hopeful we can move him on and get someone else in.

Wasn't at the match on Sunday, good to get a win against a team from the same division as us. Also obviously glad to be in the next round, Partick at Tannadice is one that they'll probably look at and think has the potential to be a banan skin. Time will tell, I guess.

Big match this Saturday, it's vital that we hit the ground running - especially playing against a QotS side who are often there or thereabouts in the top half of the table.
