As the new season approaches it's time for some match-ups. Last season + International tournaments have drawn up some fresh measurements between players.
A lot has changed since last year's vote http://www.ja606.co.uk/articles/viewArticle/304175
Alexis vs Ribery, Oscar vs Coutinho, Ramsey vs Henderson, Robben vs Bale. All pretty laughable now as they always end up being a year on.
Here is 2016's version:
Ronaldo vs Messi
Suarez vs Benzema
Ramsey vs Pogba
Bale vs Griezmann
Kroos vs Busquets
Alaba vs Marcelo
Modric vs Iniesta
Kante vs Vidal

" and modric is pretty much the best midfielder in the world. "
Really? He's great to watch, and fantastic at his specific job of recycling the ball quickly but even just off the top of my head I'd put Kroos, Thiago, Pogba, Fabregas, Ozil, Silva as better

"not sure why you haven't grasped the concept of the article."
i agree
citing Fabregas as better confirms it too - getting your manager sacked versus winning the CL.

Eh? I didn't say Fabregas was better than Verratti, let alone Modric
Fully grasp the article concept (I fail to see on what basis you decided I hadn't understood it). Just don't see what Modric has done to merit being considered as the best midfielder in the world. He's arguably not even the best midfielder in his team. I'd put Iniesta (past and present) well ahead of him.

Haaksworth,
I was quoting Chronic who was responding to Chris H, so not aimed at you
However...
"Just don't see what Modric has done to merit being considered as the best midfielder in the world"
He has won the CL twice in the last 3 years. No other CM can say the same. Iniesta has similar feats of course but they aren't as recent, so to say Modric is a better player than Iniesta at present isn't far fetched at all.

It seems Chronic was replying to you - my bad

I disagree with this. It's that team, Real Madrid, that have won the CL twice in 2 seasons, not the player. Any Real Madrid youngsters (in their first team) could say the same, but that doesn't make them better than players like Iniesta on paper does it? Just because their club has won the CL.

Ok, so when somebody questions the merits of a player i am not allowed to list their merits, which are recent and relevant?
It's not like i said the likes of Casemiro can all of a sudden lord it over Iniesta, just because he played a tiny part (i think?) in winning the CL. That would be daft
