Friday facts - midweek special

Bury in the re-titled EFL Cup will be a rare opportunity to reel off some stats about previous encounters this year.

I can find six previous visits and I think I was at them all!

Only five months since the most recent which ended dramatically with Tyler Walker's late late leveller (and early for Hamza after two yellow cards)

Jan 15 saw Phil Edwards get the only goal of the game.

Another late recovery in Aug 13 with Michael Symes and Adam McGurk both scoring in the last seven minutes to grab a point.

A 1-3 defeat in November 2010 with our goal coming from James Collins.

And a 0-0 when we were finding our feet in the league in October 2009.

The sixth was at Eton Park in the F A cup way back in January 1980. A 2-0 reverse and my main memory is being told to turn my radio down at the end of the game as the stadium announcer was reading out the crowd (4,000+ if memory serves) No checking scores on i-phones back then!

Another little feature within a feature for this year will be "Brewers on the Box". With so much televised these days it is inevitable that we will get some glimpses of former Brewers though they will be hard pressed to beat my first example in terms of progress! 2nd half substitute appearance for Kevin Stewart at Wembley Stadium versus Barcelona, including Messi and Suarez. Not a bad sixteen months since scoring the winner as we won the League Two title at Cambridge!

Thanks for the encouraging comments on the earlier articles.

Steve I can remember that defeat against bury but thought it was before 1980 and was it our first time in the first round proper

Another great trip down memory lane Steve. I enjoyed that. I had totally forgotten about Michael Symes.

I think I had the misfortune of attending all the away games too. I was thinking about Bury on the way to the game last night and figured that they must be our biggest bogey team.
