Mangala

I know the talk has been about Valencia's Mustafi but can Bould mould a decent centre half out of this much derided Frenchman .

Yes he is clumsy and positionally suspect, but he has all the physical attributes( tall, strong and quick) to succeed in that role .

He may not be Pep's cup of tea but there is a reason the Engineer scouted and doled out the King 's ransom Mancity paid for him.

I feel it is worth a gamble if City makes him available for, say £18-£20 million .

Mangala is still only 22, it's unfair to write him off so early in his career.

The first 5 or 6 matches last season where we didn't concede a single goal was in part down to Mangala, he looked to have a good partnership building with Kompany.

He then got injured, as did Kompany and for the majority of last season was paired with Otamendi who didn't do him any favours at times.

For your kind info, Mangala is 25.

Only a few years ago Mangala was the second most expensive defender in history. The total package to sign him (fee and wages) was close to £70m.

He’s proven to be a liability in the PL, and given the costs, can’t see AFC taking a ‘punt’ on him when there are more capable defenders around.

Personally I’d take Johnny Evans over Mangala every day of the week.

Mustafi (if a deal can be done) however looks like a good fit:

If u watch Mustafi play he kinda plays exactly like Kosielney, where he likes to attack the ball and win it early.

2 CB like that do not work as u can see when Kos was with Verm and now Gabby.

I haven't seen enough of Mustafi to comment but having two CB's that like to attack/win the ball higher up the pitch have worked weel in the past, Adams/Keown/Campbell/Toure etc etc.

Just takes a bit of discipline which unfortunately was lacking in Verm.

To be fair to Mangala there probably is a good defender in there. City just ruin CB's by constantly changing their partnership, playing awful full backs and not giving them any protection.
