Is Robbie Fowler to blame?

This question is really in jest, but look at the space time continuum since Robbie Fowler missed a penalty for Man City.

In their final league match in 2005 i think the penalty was in the closing minutes, Man City were awarded a penalty. Score and they go in to UEFA Cup and Boro narrowly miss out.

Up steps Fowler, who has his penalty saved. This meant Boro went into the following season's UEFA Cup.

They ultimately reached the final, in which McLaren appeared to be a genius, turning around some "lost" matches by really going for it.

McLaren then got promoted after the 2006 World Cup and England have not recovered since

Would the "Wally with the Brolly" still have got the job regardless? Or do you think it was his UEFA Cup run that sealed the job for him?

And jokes aside cos i know it's not really Fowler to blame. As we've had League and Champions League winning coaches in charge of our National Team....................Why do we always seem to freeze at the tournaments?

It's mad. I am joking, but for all i know that penalty miss could have been the catalyst for McLaren being England Manager

Cause and effect offers fanciful options every writer draws inspiration from. It could be said in the same spirit, that Adolphus Blaggs was the grandfather of England's most famous national manager. Unfortunately hunnish shrapnel got him in the guts at Verdun, while observing a lady bird that floated to a shrub close to his tench post. He was wondering how the bug was unaffected by the chlorine gas his troop was exposed to that spring morning , a moment of lost caution and he was gone. As a result there were no offspring, and England hopes were reduced to a refereeing controversy two generations later and the mediocrity the nation was doomed to.
So was it the army, the lady bug, or corporal Blaggs himself that is to blame?

How could he be a grandfather ,if he had no offspring !

Steve McClaren is a tactical mastermind, he played with four strikers when Boro needed a goal in a knockout competition.
