This is not a Wum article. Mourinho and Ferguson. Who's better? This question is not based on their achievements but pure ability. So comparisons should be along the lines of man management ability, motivating players, ability to develop players, transfer window savvy, tactical, ability to change a game with subs, media manipulation ability, adaptability, rebuilding teams ability and well, good looks/style. There are ten categories above to make comparisons easier. Examples would help too. Personally i feel mourinho wins 7-3. Hoping this does not turn into a slagging off match between both fans.

Without knocking Uniteds success, it is much easier to remain competitive in the modern game with the resources available.
That is a fact always ignored by the ignorant.

Jose and Fergie have completely different aspects to their game.
For example if i wanted some-one to build a legacy then Fergie's my man but if i wanted some-one who will win me a few cups, imediate league titles and some-one who will regually outsmart other top managers then Jose wins hands down.
People like ot say if you have Jose down Leyton Orient for example he will do bad well i can guarentee you he will win them league one, why? he will give the players belief they can beat any-one and can you also imagine players of Hartlepool for example loooking on the opposing bench and seeing Jose Mourinho? they would be beaten before the game kicks off.
Both great managers for completely different reason's

Mourinho = Fergies successor at United.
--------------------------
I was listening to Gill talk about this recently and unless the applicant is prepared to continue in the United way, then he said they would not be a suitable manager for United anyway
Mourinho has no chance of managing United in my opinion. Not unless he drastically alters his management style

I think you have to remember with United's european record England wasn't quite the powerhouse it was back in the day, before United started winning trophies in Europe it had been a while....
Would we consider a manager poor for struggling to win european trophies in an inferior league ?
Fair play Jose at Porto was pretty impressive winning the champions league... how would we compare it with Alex winning the cup winners cup with Aberdeen... not sure how exactly we would compare the sides but Porto are probably a bigger side in their league than Aberdeen was in Scotland.
I have to give him his salesmanship skills though, convincing Barca to part with all that money and Eto for Ibrahimovic was pretty impressive and he spent the money well. Fair play on Milito (fairly cheap right) but sneijder was fairly well known as a good player
At Chelsea he did have a fairly open cheque book to help their rise, Alex may have outspent rivals in a few seasons but never the kind of monetary advantage Mourinho had at Chelsea.
On the other hand people judge him too harshly on his Madrid time he is against a really good Barca team...
People seem to refuse to consider any of the conditions in which these people worked... thats a pretty vital component...
For me Ferguson > Mourinho though he is still a good coach, seen as he is young I suppose he could one day overtake Ferguson but I am not to sure myself..

Benzema is currently in the best form of his life, mourinho made santon. He said so himself. Only the case of pedro leon has any credibility. And we all know what balotelli is. On fergie's side, we can call numerous great players that he's fallen out with.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Benzema is currently in the best form of his life after one season where Mourinho treated him badly, played without a CF and played Adebayor in front of him. Even if his form or training was bad, Mourinho didn't motivate him but kicked him when he was down by going the press and scouting for a new CF and saying Benzema does not understand football and similar comments.
Santon got a few games with Mourinho and was then ignored after he was injured and lost form. In his 1st season he was the "new Maldidi" now he is a Newcastle. His fall was long and it had to do with Mourinho. He's done the same with Pedro Leon which you agree with.
Balotelli is an idiot its true and he was propbably bad in training or whatever but Mourinho again slated him in the press.
My point is not to say Fergie is an angel when it comes to players, he has had bust ups with Stam, Keane, Beckham and RVN, but he does not air dirty laundry in the media, he backs his players and he has by far the best record in motivating and developing young players.
Note Benzema, Leon, Balotelli and Santon were under 23 when this incidents occured. Unquestionable talent but no support from the manager. I'd also maybe add Canales to the list as he is not getting any game time at Madrid and when he has played looks short of confidence.

You can't really blame mourinho for santon. He was 17 and mourinho put faith in him. The fact that chivu came back when santon was out and is older and better meant it would be difficult to displace him. And how many eighteen year olds do you see starting regularly for top european teams? I think the media antics with benzema were aimed at bringing the best out of him as well as the adebayor signing. It obviously worked cos benzema had his best goal tally last season. And played more minutes than any other madrid forward from january. The phrase 'different strokes for different folks' comes to mind. Mourinho felt using the press would work with those players and so used it. I don't have a link to an article right now but i'm sure santon said he owes everything to mourinho for having faith in him in the first place. And i'm confident you won't find any other players that mourinho worked with who have a bad word about him and that's something to praise him for considering he's coached in 4 countries with big teams(thus big egos) and different traditions.
