In amongst the platitudes yesterday I didn't see a lot of love for Shaw - the second coming of Wayne Bridge according to some.
His interception/challenge on Snodgrass saved a certain goal and other than that he got forward well, was solid as anything on that flank and is pretty damn good at defending full stop.
Very very pleased he seems to have come back from his injury bang in form. Will be an important player for us in the next decade. Money well spent.
Unsung hero

What killed us last season was the players not being able to express themselves going forwards. Even at 0-0 yesterday we were peppering the goal. Last season we wouldn't have even tested the GK by the 85th minute.
.........
Load of BS. Our third game last season was nearky identical to yesterdays game. Most of the games that we didn't score under LVG was actually our highest chances created under LVG many games being 20 or more shots.

People complain about his final ball, but when you compare it to what we have on the other side, it's beckhamesque

No it isn't. It's just as bad.
Shaw is a fantastic player, and had he not picked up that injury last season we'd be playing champions league football this year, no doubt. But that is one, or probably the only area of his game which needs serious work

Just to compare Mourinho to LVG in last games against the clubs.
LVG Man Utd 1-1 Leicester City
mufc 71% possession 21 shots 6 on target 6 corners vs 14 shots 3 on target 5 corners against
Mourinho supposed amazing more freedom Man Utd
Man Utd 2-1 Leicester City
mufc 9 shots 6 on target 58% possession 2 corners vs 10 shots 2 on target 7 corners for lcfc
Man Utd 3-1 Bournemouth
mufc 12 shots 5 on target 66% possession 7 corners vs 7 shots 0 on target 1 corner
Bournemouth 1-3 Man Utd
Bournemouth 9 shots 3 on target 47% possession 4 corners vs mufc 11 shots 7 on target 53% possession 2 corners.
Bournemouth 2-1 Man Utd (injury ravaged side in defence)
Bournemouth 11 shots 5 on target 5 corners 43% possession vs mufc 11 shots 5 on target 7 corners 57% possession.
Under Mourinho the only real difference is we have a more better strikeforce now. If LVG realised Rashford earlier we most likely would have won the league as we outplayed most teams last season.

What about Southampton haf?

Southampton got outshot both games under LVG at home but we lost 0-1 to first shot on target of the match late on. Southampton actually outshot us at home but were a bit wayward in front of goal.
Its funny 1 home game out of 29 did Man Utd get oushot at OT last season and that was against Arsenal where we were defending a lead with barebones on pitch. Mourinho only took 1 match out of 1 to get outshot at OT.

I think it was obvious Shaw just needed games. He hasn't quite hit the levels pre-injury yet but he was better again today. He's getting there, no doubt about that.
Don't mind that he's presently not very efficient in attacking end product. It's nice to have a full back who can defend first and foremost. His attacking play will get better with time.

Agreed berba.
I'm not sure how much his attacking play can improve that much, he does not have the raw attributes that can't really be learnt. Vision, skill etc...

Shaw is a fine player. But let's not entertain fanciful notions.
His final ball is bad; truly bad. So bad, i can do better! Much better. Not much point being an outlet - and he is a fantastic outlet on the left - if it often comes to nowt.

I challenge you to prove to me and everyone on here that you can deliver a better final ball than Shaw.
It's statements like these that devalue your debate.

Imo the fee we paid for him will be viewed as a bargain in the future.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
That's what I could never understand.
People moaned about paying 30 million for a kid who was quite clearly a very good player and would give us years of service.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Same here. And going by the fees paid for some players this summer alone, £30m isn't much for a player of Shaw's quality. Factor in that he has the potential to get even better, and possibly years ahead of him, it's looking like excellent business by Utd. A bargain if you will.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I wrote an article on his price tag showing how going for a younger player who can offer many years service works out cheaper than a more expensive older player...
It was partially in defence of a fee that a lot of people at the time were complaining about but I felt was more than justified.
Who would honestly swap the money for Shaw back now?
It's just a shame we lost him for last season, mentioned how I wrote the season off the moment it happened (got a lot of criticism for that) but I think we can see what a difference he makes.
