Jordan Henderson Mr England

Rumours have it on Twitter Jordan Henderson is to be named the new England captain. Probably not our most glorious moment if true!

Discuss.

Henderson being made captain would sum up Big Sam's appointment in a nutshhell tbh, a bigger question would be is anyone even interested in the English national football team anymore? I can't think of a lower point in time for them tbh

----

I'd say failing to qualify in 74 and 78 having been the best team only a decade earlier, and failing to qualify in 94 having reached the semi's only 4 years earlier, and failing to qualify in 2008 having been a solid last 8 team for 3 straight tournaments were all lower ebbs.

The 94 debacle an England team with Carlton Palmer in it.

Bad times.

Did I not like that.

fair points guys but I dont think we have ever embraced failure like we are now....employing coaches that have CV's with no trophies...ever... and more losses than wins, it's all getting a bit silly

I would like us to become hard to beat, you have to start with that.

I do think Sam will do that.

Solid but unspectacular.

Proven winning managers need top players.

We don't win because our players are not good enough.

Being managed by a hybrid of SAF, Paisley, Ramsey and Beckenbauer wouldn't change that.

yeah but the only problem with statement is that national teams do come along from time to time with worse squads than we currently have and have had in the past and win tournaments (Denmark, Greece etc)

Not sure what we can do until the structure is out in place where grass roots is suported more, and full first team players must have done some amount of time in the under 21's under 19's.

Bring the next gen up as a team the way the Germans do.

Yeah but they don't do it with proven world class managers do they?

They do it with functional well organised managers with a plan. Sam Allardyce types. See Wales and Iceland overachieving also.

They weren't managed by world beaters.

They play to their strengths we try to play like Germany or Spain and our players just aren't good enough for that.
