Success linked with a "Club Symbol"

I was just thinking that most successful teams have a Club Symbol, a player or players that have grown up with the club and have the tradition and values of the club ingrained in them.

These are players from the Club's youth academy or even bought very young and who have given their all for the club. You can find examples all over the world, some haven't always been able to drive their team to success but all have that same passion and fight and symbolise that club.

Examples include:
Giggs, Neville, Scholes, Keane, Beckham - United
Gerrard, Caragher - Liverpool
Xavi, Puyol, Messi - Barca
Raul - Madrid
Del Piero - Juventus
Totti, De Rossi - Roma
Zanetti - Inter
Maldini - Milan
Albelda, Baraja - Valencia
Viera, Henry - Arsenal
Terry, Lampard - Chelsea

Obviously Pele - Santos and Maradonna - Napoli

Any others? Is there a link?

.............................

Can you explain to me how any of these players are linked to a club symbol?

Feel free to do so, and prove that you are not missing any brain cells.

Got to admit I don't really understan it.

Exactly Hoody.

When I think of Totti I associate him to Roma, not to two young kids underneath a wolf.

You misinterpretated what he means by "Club Symbol"

Im pretty sure he means players like Totti or Raul symbolise their respective clubs Roma & Real because they've maybe come through the youth system and won trophies etc etc and pretty much stayed at one club for their careers.

I dont think he's talking about the club emblem.

Well a red devil is going to be more powerful than a lot of the other top teams..

a canon (arsenal)., a liver bird (lol) (Liverpool), a blue backwards lion holding a staff (chelsea) (this might put up a solid enough fight).. a phoenix (Manchester city).. constantly dieing and re-emerging all shiny before dieing once again...and a Cockerel (Spurs)..

I think I misunderstood the title of the post.. but if you are asking which player embodies the club's ethos.. can't argue much with what you have written! xx

Going back in time a bit, but:
Jack Charlton of Leeds, maybe Tony Adams of Arsenal.
Oh, and Bob Paisley of Liverpool - player, coach, manager, and Director of football with the club from 1939 to 1992. Yes, I'm going to say it - Liverpool legend!
