Rashford pre-Feb 2016

Hi all,

Did anyone watch the U21s/U18s before Rashford made his breakthrough early this year? I'm curious to know whether his talent was always clear and his rise to the first team and international representation were highly likely back then, or whether he has taken his chance and kicked on impressively since?

Thanks

Rashford had the ultimate sliding door moment for a young player. He was about 8th in the pecking order when the perfect storm of injuries and others being out on loan gave him his opportunity.

Yep, I would definitely have had him behind Wilson (a couple of years older, granted), Fletcher and Mitchell in the pecking order.

Played mainly out wide (as did Fletcher and do Mitchell and Buffonge - this is part of player development for pacy strikers) and looked like a talent, but very lightweight and lacking in power. He's improved just about every aspect of his game in the last twelve months as far as I can see.

Although we're all rightly excited about his emergence, I think people are jumping the gun a bit with their predictions of a superstar future; many of us did the same with Januzaj, Macheda, Rossi, etc. He's only played a handful of games and has a lot to learn. Let's not load too much pressure on him too quickly.

Doesnt look that impressive but seems to find himself in the right areas

"Finds himself in the right areas"

I disagree. He has got good movement and understanding of his position. His positional skills are very good. His dribbling isn't too bad and you can't question his finishing and pace to this point.

I'm sure we will see a point where this lad begins to drop off. But he isn't doing himself any harm right now.
