I just wanted to pose a question to everyone england best ever bowler? who is it ?
England have had many good bowlers truemans, lakers ect
first of id like to point out a few facts -
jimmy anderson has 240 test wickets and 200 odi wickets at the age of just 29.
his carear has hopefully another 5 years and who knows he may end up with over 400 in each format or he may only get 50 more each and get a bad injury which could end his carear
what i want to know is, jimmy anderson is he englands best ever bowler or is he just a very good bowler and we will tell in 5 years time.
debate ..
Jimmy Anderson Englands best ever???

Did someone mention Dr Pringle.
He could swing it but at a slow pace.

I was being sarcastic with that one.

would i not be allowed to then if you hadnt given your approval for me to do so ?
wisden on bob massie's spell :
"Massie maintained excellent length and direction and his late swing either way always troubled the England batsmen"

"there must be a place for Dermot Reeve. He produced probabaly the most amazing bowling spell i remember. Can,t remember the full details but it was in Oz i think. All i remember is he was well nigh unplayable because he landed the ball consistently on the right spot(albeit on a helpful wicket) .I seem to recall he got about four wickets but could have had them all.Even though the batsmen couldn't lay bat on ball as Dermot got it to move allways. Can anyone confirm that i remember correctly?Boyks anyone?"
he has got the opponent wrong, but the bowler right. he got it swining so much the players were falling about laughing. there is no way anyone has ever swung a cricket ball as much which is the point i made, before you jumped in without knowing what it was you were commenting on.

I would say that a completetwat is someone who thinks taking four wickets in a match is the greatest feat of swing bowling, when you compare it to someone who actualy took 16 wickets in an ashes Test match.

Best ever? Not yet. Trueman, Botham, Laker, Verity, Larwood all rank above him at the moment. However, his form over the last three years has been spectacular from a slow start.
Afer 36 tests, Anderson had taken 119 wkts at 35.4.
In the next 27 games he's taken 121 at 25.8, including series home and away vs Australia and away against SA, with only 2 games vs Bangaldesh. If he continues that trajectory for the next four years, he'll earn teh right to be grouped with Trueman et al.

Let’s recap here, just to set things straight. This is what has happened on this part of the thread :
1. I stated that the most anyone has swung a ball in a spell of bowling is dermott reeve.
2. You introduce yourself by stating that i “might want to look up” bob massey
3. I advised that i do not need to “look up” bob massey and repeated the statement that the most swing on a ball was in a spell from reeve.
4. You stated that you had “told” me that it wasn’t reeve’s spell.
5. I asked you what spell of reeve’s i was talking about, seeing as you have been able to judge in which of the spells the ball swung the most.
6. You said you didn’t know.
7. You said that reeve’s spell can not have been the “greatest” spell of wing bowling because he only took 4 wickets.
The following conclusions can be reached from this series of comments :
1. You are arrogant, rude and ignorant in purporting to correct me without knowing what it is that I was referring to, and also rude and arrogant in assuming that i had never heard of bob massey.
2. You are deceitful, in trying to pretend that the point being made was the “greatest” spell of bowling, not the spell in which the ball swung the most, which is the point that i made before you rudely jumped in.
3. You do not know the difference between a “spell” of bowling, an innings, and a match.

Let me recap.
You think Dermott Reeve had the best spell of swing bowling ever seen, that he only took four wickets with it, and no one of any note actually saw it, apart from one person on an old BBC Blog.
I thing Bob Massie provided the greatest ever performance of swing bowling ever witness in test cricket. Witnessed at Lords IN AN Ashes test match and annotated in Wisden, and just about any other site you want to look at if you google Bob Massie. Such was the swing he was getting on the ball, that he took 16 wickets in that test match.
To conclude, you sir are an idiot of the highest order.
