Shocking decision to book pereira who was elated in his part of the goal he was not the best of refs at all, well at least a point 3 on weds would be nice

Some ref's would have disallowed Gestedes goal for dangerous play. In fact I believe that last season he did just that. Lichaj lucky to not get kicked in the face.

As Montanier has alluded to, it isn't clear that he left the pitch. Looked to me like the Forest fans nearest him ran over to celebrate with him

Was watching on SKY and it looked pretty clear that he did leave the pitch, to run over and celebrate with the away fans. Stupid rule, but if that is the rule, then there is little than can be done.
However, if the ref was being that 'hard-line', then (as RFB says) Gestedes goal should have been disallowed. Inconsistent.

The difference between the goal that same referee disallowed in the past and this one was there was actually contact with Lichaj's head. We wasn't getting much out of him all game to be honest

Picture here shows that he did definitely leave the pitch to celebrate (presumably without the refs permission!!)

Feel sorry for refs that have to enforce such ridiculous rules to be honest.

Players leave the pitch all the time to celebrate
----------------------------------------------------------------------
From the FIFA rule book:
"Leaving the field of play to celebrate a goal is not a cautionable offence in itself but it is essential that players return to the field of play as soon as possible."

From the same publication:
"A player should be cautioned if he climbs on to a perimeter fence to celebrate a goal being scored."
I can't see on the highlights if he did or didn't climb onto a fence. Another guideline is crucial:
"Referees are expected to act in a preventative manner and to exercise common sense in dealing with the celebration of a goal."
I don't think common sense was applied at all. It also makes me wonder how many referees are brave enough to apply common sense and risk criticism from their authorities.
