Is Lampard being treated unfairly?

I was just remembering how a lot of journalists have been slagging off Lampard over this weekend because he was dropped against Bulgaria. Lampard was apparently 'disappointed' about not being selected but some journalists thought that he should 'unsurprised' about being dropped. Now I think Lampard should start regularly for England and i understand others think he shouldn't, but surely he should be allowed to be disappointed about being dropped and want to fight for his place back. Instead people think he shouldn't be too confident about starting for England. I'm sure if it was a non-Chelsea player like Gerrard, he would be praised for wanting to fight back for a place in the team.

I agree that we don't have a stand-out number 9 so until we do I would go with whoever has a good understanding with Rooney (who is a number 10, never a number 9).

I agree with TGI Fry.

Watch the game, watch Lampard closely and comment after the game.

He is usually none existent in England matches unless we get a penalty kick.

But we are playing Wales, surely he can perform against them.

People just hate Chelsea and they can't look beyond that. I can guarantee if he still played for West Ham he wouldn't get anywhere near the stick he does now

I want to seen in the future a front line of Sturridge - Rooney - Welbeck, would be good if it worked

Funny how it's always Lampard who's criticised for not performing for England, and not messrs Gerrard and Rooney

Wasn't Lampard voted into team of the tournament in Euro 04? And for someone dubbed the best english talent since Gascoine Wazza has yet to hit a goal in a world cup finals

Lamps has neevr been played in his best position for England, yet this has not stopped the wums, idiots and bitters from labelling him the cause oif England;s woes

doesn't everyone think the media hate them? I know the media hate us. Don't think there is such a media witch hunt for chelsea as you make out

Even journalists have admitted it on live television. High profile ones including Patrick Barclay, Henry Winter and Ollie Holt.

Then you have the idiots like Ian Ridley, Derek Mcgovern, Lee Bolton and other Mirror and Mail 2@t journalists

Lampard gets stick cause he is always used as a scape goat by liverpool fans for gerrards failings at international level, to be honest neither of them have played as well as they do for their clubs & i happen to personally believe gerrard is the slightly better player, but England fail cause they get out numbered & out played in midfield against the top teams , what england really have lacked is a world class defensive midfielder to sit behind gerrard & lampard, If gerrard had joined chelsea he would have slotted onto the right of a trio with lamps on the left & makelel or essien behind them. Dont not why he gets stick , he never cries off from friendlies & even when he plays crap he always gives 100%. Partisan club support at its worst same as when becks, neville , terry, heskey got booed. Real fans should get behind whoever the coach picks regardless of their club

Blackburn fan and I totally agree he's used as a scapegoat. Its this weird phenomenon you get with football fans where if things aren't going great, a sizeable percentage will start to have it in for one player. At Rovers it used to be Keith Andrews, now its Jason Roberts, or if he's not playing its MG Pedersen. With England it seems to be Lampard.

Its totally daft in my opinion. Lampard has been the best premiership midfielder of the last decade without a doubt, an accolade that is rarely acknowledged or given credit for by the media. He hasn't been quite as good for England but then none of our players seem to be these days for whatever reason. He's still scored 22 in 87, a very good return for a midfielder.

I think Chelsea fans have every right to feel aggrieved, the criticism of him winds me up simply as an England fan.
