Driving in France.
I was involved in a minor car accident. No-one injured, not too much damage. The other driver's missus is onto the police in a flash rather than exchanging details.
He was stopped at some red lights with a scooter in front of him. There were two lanes which merged into one lane about 50m after the lights. I was in the 2nd lane slowing down as I approached the lights, but still doing 15-20mph. The lights changed to green. The scooter moved off but this guy didn't. So I thought I'd just glide past him and slip in front. Wouldn't have bothered if he'd moved off when the lights turned green as I wasn't in any rush and am a bit too old to be racing.
Anyway, he ends up hitting me just behind my drivers side back wheel with just infront of his driver side front wheel (LHD) I was just about completely infront of him when the accident occurred. He claims he was going 25mph and that I sped up to squeeze through the gap.
I'd probably have let this go as a 50:50 even though I believe he was mainly at fault. He didn't move off as the lights changed to green and then tried to speed up as I had already passed him. I didn't even bother to accelerate as I passed him as I thought there wasn't a problem. I do have a powerful car and could quite easily have floored it and passed him and the scooter if I wanted to. But I didn't.
Anyway, my question is how quickly can a bog standard 10yr old+ renault megane type 1.6 cover 50m from a standing start? How fast will it be going when it gets to 50m?
In my opinion, he was an idiot to speed up after I was almost past, especially with two young kids in the back.
How quickly can a car travel 50m?

Get them to pay for repairs through insurance.
Not sure how it works if the collision was abroad though.

4 times, I think he was mainly at fault because he saw I was in front of him, yet he didn't brake, just sped up. How on earth he thought he could undertake me in such a short space is beyond me.
I'd happily let it go as 50:50 as it's not much money, but I'm not happy on principle.
I thought I'd spend 30 minutes researching if I could 'prove' he was lying about his speed and then just let it go.

Surrender your licence, say you'll take the fine and when you get home say you've lost your licence and get a new one.

The French police weren't bothered. They had to turn up because she called them and they were visibly pisshed off at having to turn up for such a minor RTA.
they said sort it out with the insurance.

What a kant that guy was. I just knew it.
We met up to fill out the forms and he'd already drawn a diagram showing my lane turning in and his being straight. I showed him the google map image showing my lane going straight and his turning in!!!

He said he'd seen on google maps too. I don't understand why he tried to take the piissh. Must think the English are thick.
At least he apologised for his wife being a silly moo. Felt a little sorry for him being married to her.
