Derby County 0 - 3 Liverpool EFL Cup

Derby v Liverpool........Liverpool....Liverpool....actually I'm not going tonight, so I'll add to the comment count on here.

Andreas Weimann could feature tonight as Vydra and Anya are cup-tied. After that I cannot see many options for tweaking.

Klopp has declared his intention to name a strong side which may just work in their favour.

Derby continue to 'disappoint' and dearly need a goal. So Bent fill your boots....😂

Apologies for the paucity of this article but only Igor reads it.....😎

Let's go and let's not embarrass ourselves.

Team news:-

Derby County: Mitchell, Christie, Keogh (C), Bent, Baird, Johnson, Pearce, Butterfield, Hughes, Weimann, Olsson

Substitutes: Weale, Ince, Camara, Blackman, Lowe, Elsnik, Rawson

Liverpool: Karius, Clyne, Coutinho, Firmino, Henderson (C), Grujic, Klavan, Moreno, Leiva, Origi, Matip

Substitutes: Mignolet, Milner, Mane, Can, Ings, Lovren, Ejara

Liverpool were very good.
--------------------------------------------------------
Vidal and Derby were pathetic we made them look like World beatersNigel Pearson was opening for penalties

So was I.

But in the end predicted a 0-2.

Might have been different with our full 11.

"The first goal came from a mistake..."

No it didn't, it came from a series of mistakes by a procession of managers who were enabled by stupid fans who value perceived effort over actual ability.

Even the greats occasionally mistakes. I did think Keogh had an uncharacteristically poor game though. He has started the season well and the partnership with Pearce looks a good one. Central defence is our least worrying area of the pitch at the moment.

Only 1 thing could of helped us last night...The old BBG pitch. Liverpool were on a different level. Simple as that. Their touch and movement means you very really get to "rattle" em. We looked nervous and panicky due to the quality we knew we were facing. All 3 goals had an element of panic by Derby. We have a far bigger game Saturday. We should be going into the Blackburn game on the back of 2 league wins but poor finishing has cost us. We need to start putting chances away. We have missed far too many against Ipswich & Bristol City.

" I did think Keogh had an uncharacteristically poor game though."

Unfortunately history shows that it was entirely in character; he bottles the big games for us. This wasn't even that big in the grand scheme of things but clearly he perceived it as his moment to shine and played accordingly. His positioning, decision-making, and even ability to kick or head the ball were all atrocious in the ten minutes of highlights I have seen and, whilst anyone could argue that he was Mark Wright-esque in the unshown bits, the fact remains that he was poor often enough to be costly.

In the previous 3 seasons we have been lucky enough to drawn against top sides, Chelsea twice and Man Utd. The Chelsea side we played in the FA cup was far better than the Liverpool side last night but I was more optimistic of a result in all the previous three games than I was last night. I don't think I was alone in that. We have declined so quickly this year we are now worried about a home game against a struggling Blackburn.

10 games played, only 3 goals scored (one against Grimsby) and beaten by Burton Albion. This is is in the period of the new manager "bounce". What will it be like when the bounce wears off.

Sorry 11 games played, it is even worse. My we are awful but some fans will be saying this is to improve the team. All I can say is that it is a strange way to do it.

I saw the whole game, 666, and like I say I thought Keogh had a poor game. Unlike you, I try not to have such pre-formed opinions but to base them on what I see. Keogh has been playing well this season and our defensive record has been very good. It's the creative part and the finishing where we have been lacking.

Before last night we have been showing some signs of improvement so we will have to see if that continues. Does anyone know if Cardiff is pay on the door next Tuesday? I feel my team needs me.

Last night's result in terms of win percentage makes Pearson our worst ever manager at 18.2%. Surprisingly enough it is not his worst ever performance which was a win percentage of 16.9% over 30 games for Carlisle.

Pearson's managerial career has been a strange mix of long poor runs and long good runs. We have to hope for a good run soon.

That's the best £25 I've spend watching Derby county last night
