Tonight we are at home in the Champions League....!

We were in League 1 as recently as 2009. Promoted from the Championship in 2014! What a ride its been.

The Owners, staff, players and fans should cherish tonight win, lose or draw.

I can't wait to hear that music.

Eight years ago today we were playing Hartlepool at home in League 1.

We won 1-0 with a goal from Matt Oakley. I wonder what Andy King thought he might be doing 8 years later?

Team:
D Martin
A Tunchev
C Powell
K Kilbert
J Hobbs
M Oakley
L Dyer
N Adams
*ANDY KING*
S Howard
M Fryatt

Look at that team- no wonder we got promoted! Tunchev was a Premier League player I reckon.

I have to say that even now there are times when I still cannot comprehend all that we have been through as a club since the turn of the Millenium.
Ups and downs ranging from the ignomy of relegation to League 1 right up to the heights of being crowned Premier League Champions last season.
It just shows what a weird, frustrating, enjoyable, tense sport it is that we all follow.
We all remember the celebration of the Friday night home game against Scunthorpe I think it was when we were presented with the League 1 trophy, and then we all thought never again will we be down here.
But none of us would ever of throught we would be here 8 hours from kicking of our home debut in the CL against the mighty Porto as reigning PL Champions, a £30m record signing playing for us and debates raging about our start to the season after only a handful of games.

WE LOVE YOU LEICESTER WE DO
WE LOVE YOU LEICESTER WE DO
WE LOVE YOU LEICESTER WE DO
OH LEICESTER WE LOVE YOU

PS For all those of us going tonight, enjoy, soak up the atmosphere and sing your hearts out for our team, whatever the result remember tonight as a part of our clubs history and you can tell your children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, the drunk on the corner or even Arro that YOU were there the night the KP saw CL football for the first time......

I enforce a nightly routine of practising methods of sitting on benches so as not to get cramp, and also profuse warm-ups while being ignored by elderly Italians.

Fascinating to see that team though, and consider where everybody is now. I loved that team and the effort they put in after years and years of dire home performances. They were the first step on the journey.

I can absolutely understand the emotions and points made on this thread....but

Dont lower your expectations too much, especially to 'isn't it just good to be here'!

I think you are absolutely set up to do well in a European competition and think you can do very well in that group. Enjoy but I hope it is a nasty atmosphere for Porto to play in not a celebration of being in the Champs Lge

Before this season started I said I would be happy with a top 10 finish and a decent go at the CL group stage. Still feel the same.
Having watched City since the early 70s I am just happy we have won the League in my lifetime.

I genuinely expect us to revert to type and yo-yo between the divisions over the next few years so i'm just going to enjoy these CL matches for what they are - one-offs

Scouse-heart, I think the answer is no. As soon as you put expectation on a team it makes the task harder.

I think that's a big secret to last year. We kept the players believing we could do it, but that there was no expectation we would do it.

This season in the league I think the weight of the champions tag has got to us.

We thrive in the role of underdogs and Europe allows us to be that again. I quite enjoy that. Mainly because I'm used to it as a Leicester fan, but also it makes it exciting and magical. With expectation comes disappointment in my experience.

Love for today. For our fans, today is special.

Now we've won the league everything else in my Leicester City supporting life is a bonus. If we win anything else - great. If we don't .... well .... we won the league .... dilly ding .... dilly dong!

The funny thing is that I know what my expectations are as a Leicester City fan. I also don't mind other LCFC fans telling me what my expectations should be, but (and I'm not talking about Scouse-Heart here) it irritates the crap out of me when fans of other teams and pundits tell me what my expectations should be.
