Afternoon fellow Rovers!
Sadly unable to convert the good chances we had Tuesday night to see off Carlisle.
Our 3rd penalty miss in just our first 10 games has already potentially lost us 3-5 points.
DF has spoken in the free press this week stating he is concerned we are not being ruthless enough, something I've spoken about numerous times this season.
A few points scorers from Tuesday. I picked up 8 points for the correct result and score
Crazyrover Mickey and AussieLad all predicted Tommy Rowe to score first and pick up 3 points
For the crowd, I was 4 spectators off the original attendance so gain 5 points, also Uthred and Yorkshirelad with points for being within 100.
Crazyrover cheltenhamrover Mooligan and Mickey with 3 points for being within 300 of the attendance.
BVZ AussieLad and King Chomprrrr with 2 points for being within 400 of the attendance.
So onto Saturday what sort of test can we expect? Portsmouth lost there unbeaten record on Tuesday night against Blackpool, is this the right time to play them? A big crowd also comes big expectations. Something they seem to have struggled to cope with over the years. The Sheffield utd of league 2?
I think that we seem to struggle away from home. I don't think we can defend properly and always have a goal to concede in us. Twin that with struggling to be clinical and kill teams off at the other end I'm going 1-1 with Copps scoring for us and a crowd of 16444

After Tuesday the most encouraging part was playing the second half without giving up the lead. Good win.

This was a critical game and a narrow defeat would have been forgivable. It did sound rather on a knife edge at times, but for once we had the luck and it has the obvious effect on a serious rival.
Plymouth who are racing away have not been up against nearly as many of the stronger teams as we have, so perhaps we might hope to close the gap on them when they have been properly tested and we have had some easier ones.

Just a quick summary really.
Williams and Marquis both worked hard and offered quite a bit. Both players took there goals well. As mentioned previously maybe a bit of criticism towards Williams for not being as prolific as we'd hope may inspire him to go on another run.
Defensively the problems are still there and our inability to clear corners cost us again yesterday albeit also a poor poor Wright clearance set us there lad for a good finish.
We still seem to be reluctant in shutting down crosses from out wide. Evina again similar to Carlisle and luton previous and on the other side with Richardson before he went off.
Don't get me wrong it's a terrific result but I do feel if we would have been up against a more brighter attack we may have been on the end of a loss. But this result should carry us onto a nice run especially as a lot of teams in and around us drew and lost.
Well done lads.

Azza, as Rovers fans i think it is too easy to be too critical of our own players.
Had we conceded the two goals that we scored then i reckon it would have been seen as poor defending and yet we perceive them to be good goals.
This is not having a go at your summary but just trying to put another angle on our performance.
Having seen the Pompey goal, i agree that Wright made a bluunder but for us to get through the game and win from that position indicates that we battled well and to be honest i would have expected a few narrow escapes under those circumstances.
Pompey themselves got away with a few near things when we were on top.
I have no doubt that you have given a fair summary of the outcome but we should cut the lads a bit of slack sometimes.
Portsmouth are undoubtedly one of the better teams in the division and it shouldn't be forgotten that they won their last home game 5-1.

That's true Hound. However I think the criticism is tailored due to the fact a lot of these players have performed to a better standard and in a higher division so when coming up against a lower league side and not performing as we know they can brings about opinions.
I did mention though it was a good win and one we should be very pleased with away from home against a fellow promotion rival.
Let's hope we keep in those top 3 places!

Post match DF kept talking about the injuries to his defensive players. The players on the bench including the much vaunted Baudry who had yet to get on the pitch will be in action in the midweek game.
One can never expect to have a completely injury-free squad, but it is probably fair to recognise that we still are not fielding our best back line.
He implied that Richardson was possibly too injury-prone to be a long-term prospect and one assumes that Baudry will be found a place at the back now and perhaps his experience and relative youth will add at least some of the extra solidity we need there.
They will certainly have to be in their toes to cope with the pace and fitness that you might expect from the Derby U21s.
