A friend told me last night over a couple of beers that we are not good enough for top 4 and we will be unable to sign decent players that can take us out of this quagmire since they'll want champions league football. Are we in a vicious cycle where we can't sign decent players and can even lose the few we have because champions league is unattainable ? He went further to say that Costa is not in the same class as Lewandoski, Suarez and Aguero, of course I didn't agree with him so I'm asking my fellow blues, what do you think, is there any truth in his assertions? Is top 4 a pipe dream, are we doomed and condemned to mediocrity?
He also said psg sold us a dud ie Luiz ,,,

Look at last year, when we just had the league after February's champions league exit did we play to a standard of the top 4? I don't think we did

It sounds simple, but if he can stop us from conceding all the time and keep us scoring goals then we'll be fine.
It's a bit Michael Owen...
But to do that, he has to sort out the players mental attitude on the pitch.

I'd say based on early season form (which doesn't count for too much) that United and Chelsea have a lot of work to do to claim a top 4 spot.

I think you are spot on Metro. Right now City, Spurs and Liverpool are the only teams playing the high tempo football. Arsenal are probably on a par, but in their own style.
We (Chelsea) are currently off the pace and although there is time to improve, i just don't think we have the players to play the high tempo pressing game.
