One of the factors that defined his Arsenal career so far has been the limiting of his abilities due to Olivier Giroud.
If we had a better, more mobile striker then Giroud, Ozil would smash all assists records.
Last season - with Giroud playing the majority of games - 20 assists from 45 appearances - record breaking chances made in a PL season.
This season - with Giroud barely setting foot on the pitch - 0 assists from 8 appearances - very low down on chances created.
Damn you Giroud, damn you to hell
Mesut Ozil...

Yeah, and if Madrid had decided Modric was surplus to requirements and farmed him off to Arsenal you'd be saying he was the better player. But interestingly they chose to keep Modric...
A luxury player is one that doesn't contribute much for the full 90. Modric's style of play is one that allows his team to control a game, with him as the conduit, it isn't about scoring or assisting. He dictates play, controls possession and starts moves. Ozil doesn't do this, he's an assist merchant
---------------------------
Except that's far from true. Modric coming to Arsenal would never have made me put him above Ozil. And are you actually deluded enough to think Madrid kept Modric over Ozil. Oxil's departure had absolute fack all to do with Modric.
I don't know what you mean by dictating play and controlling possession and starting moves seeing as Ozil's passing precision and ability to find pockets of space helps us control possession and knit our play together. Probably only David Silva and Cazorla do this better than him in England. We're far sloppier in attack without Ozil.
As I asserted as pure fact, before Ozil's Real Madrid departure, there hardly exists a soul who would have put him and Modric in the same class. For you to claim Ozil is now a class below is laughable.

Sheriff, either this is a poor wind-up or you don't have a fackin' clue.
I'm a Madrid fan; Ozil was widely liked, true, but Modric was and is widely considered our mainstay in midfield.
He had a difficult opening few months until Mourinho figured out how to fit him in, but ever since he's been essential to us and an undoubtable fan favourite.
For a measure of his impact, look at our 14/15 season. We were steamrolling everyone, Barça included, until his injuries. Without him, our season fell apart. Ancelotti himself acknowledged as much.

Not sure where I implied a player who starts for Madrid isn't a "mainstay". Who else were they gonna play? Illaramendi? Some academy player? That doesn't change what I said: that he's a player with a narrow skillset who gets far too much credit for far too little. And Marid's problems 2 seasons ago was far more complicated than Modric missing. They missed a lot of players too. Modric playing didn't stop Barca mauling Madrid at the Bernabeu last season.

Modric is one of the most overrated players out there. Good player. But the reason he is put on the pedestal is cause there aren't many top CMs nowadays.

As someone has already mentioned, Ozil outfield play is terribly overated.

Anyone who thinks Modric is even remotely as good as Ozil doesn't know anything about football.

Modric is just a water-carrier.
Doesn't create chances, doesn't get assists, doesn't score, can't tackle, not big or strong.

" And I suspect if Ozil never came to Arsenal, 99% of "neutrals" including yourself won't. I remember pretty vividly Ozil's reputation in Madrid was 2nd only to Ronaldo and he was a player any team would have given their limbs for to sign."

It's strange, all those seasons spent moaning about Arsenal players not having heart. Yet now people wish to hail Ozil's greatness. He's the biggest got no heart bottle job of a disappearing act at Arsenal and possibly even in the entire EPL.
Said it before and I'll say it again...Ozil only plays well when the opposition MF let him play. If they decide to close him down and stop him playing. Then like a lil kid who can't have his own way, he sulks and bottles out of the game. He doesn't have the cahones for the EPL and he costs us more in disappearing acts than he gains us in assists.
