The African Cup of nations will take place in Gabon from 14 January – 5 February 2017 and will feature 16 countries. Pertinent to the premier league is the issue of players that will be required to represent their country. Mohamed Elneny will be the only player called up from the Arsenal squad as it stands (and fortunately we should have adequate cover). However some other premier league clubs may find coping with the loss of the players that will be at this competition very difficult indeed. For example Leicester will lose Riyad Mahrez, Islam Slimani, Daniel Amartey, Jeffrey Schlupp and Yohan Benalouane. Liverpool will lose Sadio Mane and possibly Joel Matip. Man UTD will lose Eric Bailly. Tottenham could lose Victor Wanyama. The plot thickens

Looking at that article it seems most teams won't suffer too badly.
Liverpool losing Mane is tough, but it likely just means more Sturridge. Not a bad replacement.
Looking at the list of players makes me wonder if there's a dearth of talent in the AFCON teams, or at least, is there no potential super power line the IC, Nigeria, Csmeroon and Senegal teams of past?

I think that possibly the missing players will have an effect on the bottom more than the top of the league but there will be a knock on effect on the league in general.

Aye I suppose. Everton loving Gueye and Bolasie could be problematic

Terrible for Leicester.
Hopefully some of our fixtures during the AFCON will be against weakened sides.

I think top premier league clubs and managers have realised how much on an impact it has on their league compaign and are now reluctant to get a player whom might not be availble for few weeks minimum. Would Leicester have won the league if last year Mahrez had to go?
I still remember Yaya 2 season ago. He came back and was completely knackered. City league form dropped significanlty as a result.

Wanyama isn't going as Kenya didn't qualify.
