Arsenal urged to consider banning season tickets of fans who fail to show up
For example, it was revealed in 2014 that the Metropolitan Police’s official average gate attendance at the Emirates in the previous season was 53,788

I had 3 spare tickets for yesterdays game which NO one wanted for free and it's getting harder and harder to get people to go to matches now as they now can watch it on TV for free. I know yesterday was only Middlesbrough but i think we had a lot less than 50,000 turning up for game as i had 6 in my row which were emtpy and lots more in the rows above and below me!
don't know what can be done as the tickets are all paid for it's just that no one wants go anyome or are only wanting to watch the big game now

Think clubs in London with the selection and amount of clubs will struggle to sell 60,000 each week. I doubt Chelsea would in cup games etc...but only because of the prices! I was astounded to see the prices for tickets at the Emirates. My season ticket is 40 quid a game and to some that's probably too much

I find the whole think very disappointing. I started going to Highbury back in 1962. I went to a football match because I wanted to. I wasn't well off enough to have a season ticket so I stood on the North Bank. Now we are talking about 'forcing' season ticket holders to go if they don't exercise free will and choose not to attend. It's the grubby money men at it again because they don't like empty seats to be seen when their nice antiseptic package is transmitted to the far corners of the world. What next? A complete ban on tackling? Clubs becoming merely a franchise to be hawked around the world like the Harlem Globetrotters? They are not 'clubs' anymore. They are just money machines for distant investors and are fast losing any natural identity with local supporters, while badge kissing mercenaries flit from club to club at the whim of parasitic agents.

Of course it's a money motivated thing.
Ban fans who don't use their season book enough so that they can sell the seat on a second time.
Absolute disgrace.

So many people seemingly unable to read a simple article.
This is not something being pushed by the club, it is something that the Arsenal Supporters' Trust want to raise.
It's not a money issue from the club's perspective, if fact it's probably the opposite. We're talking about people with season tickets, that have already been paid for, choosing not to go.
There are things the club could do, such as improving ticket exchange so that it can be used at shorter notice, but to be clear this is not a problem with the club trying to fleece the supporters.

Sömeday_693 I think it is partly to do with the club fleecing supporters as it's only the well-off can afford the tickets now so not going to match and wasting 40 quid or more doesn't bother you but when you're just an average Joe you can't afford to waste the money like that week in week out and just selecting the games you prioritise

I agree that if you trace this back to the source it's probably a money issue.
But this specific issue that the article raised is to do with people who have already paid for their tickets not turning up.
I don't think there is any problem with penalising ST holders who repeatedly don't turn up, without putting their ticket on ticket exchange. That then gives people who can't afford a season ticket the opportunity to attend more matches.

Also with ticket exchange they take a very hefty commission to the buyer and the seller, if you did it outside the ground it will be called touting with their commissions and I've heard you only get a credit of next year's season ticket price so no real incentive to do it
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Largely irrelevant in this case as they get nothing if they dont attend. Although a few may be more inclined to try to sell it if they got more many are so rich they dont care about a few quid.
Maybe making it easier like having a button on the Arsenal phone app they can press to say they wont be attending to release it.

Next time you have 3 spare tickets available give me a shout. I'll bring the mrs so that she can pay for everything, but I'll make sure I leave the empty seat between us.

If you read what people are posting they're not saying ban fans who don't attend so the ticket can be sold a second time.
They're saying basically that ST holders who repeatedly fail to turn up should lose their season ticket so that fans who WILL attend all the games can get a bloody ST.
There are thousands of fans who WOULD attend most games but can't get season tickets because their being renewed time and again by people who aren't going to many games. It's nothing to do with clubs making more money. The law already stops them being able to sell the the ticket twice for a profit, in the way you're thinking of.
