Three four three - not for me.

I had a feeling that Fergie would wait until he had enough fit defenders to start faffing about playing a back three. Yes, I know Chelsea used this formation to hammer Man Utd, but one - it was an appalling display from Utd and two - we aren't Chelsea. We have defensive issues. Even with a flat back four we look fragile but at least the players know what they should be doing. With playmakers like Blair, Rowe and Copps we have an excellent chance of playing our way back into Div One, where we belong, based on the team and the stadium, if not the fan-base. Leave the faffing about until the close season.

I don't see them enough to comment about the effectiveness of the system and I do think that you need to be present to see how everything unfolds on the pitch on and off the ball.

I think you may well be right about getting back to having a full complement of defenders (apart from Alcock who has been particularly missed). You could speculate that it might be linked to Baudry's introduction, although you might guess that he could play alongside Butler on the other side of a middle two.

If he was intent on using it against a promotion rival with the risk of another failure it might well be rash, but if it doesn't work vs Wycombe we might still win and perhaps he will then realise that it has to be abandoned.

I've stuck up for Fergie for a long time. But, he's starting to really boil my peace.
We were only talking about this the other day. Is he so stupid or just plain pig headed, as he's the only one who can't see it doesn't work.
We've struggled most games playing a flat back 4, could of lost to a few teams this season but managed to pull it out the bag. Yet he still wants to bring back the system that got us relegated.
I shall be watching on Saturday to see if they,Wycombe, do what every other team has done against us. Play 2 wide men and push up on our left back when ever they get the chance. I'd also like to see the young beast given a start, as much as I rate Mandeville, he isn't an out n out striker and Marquis has been struggling, without getting any help. I could see Mandeville playing at the tip of the diamond where I believe he could cause some damage with his intelligent play.

After the back three system got us relegated, as you all know, I wanted DF gone.
He started the first couple of games with the same system this season and yet again the team struggled to get to grips with it.
A player told me that some senior pro's spoke to DF about it and expressed a wish to go back to a flat back four with a holding midfielder as they were more comfortable with that system.
After consideration it was agreed and although we haven't been great defensively the results have been better than with the managers preferred system.
Agreed we have won a couple of games that perhaps we shouldn't have but conversely we lost games at Luton and Crewe that we could have easily got a victory from.
Luck tends to balance out doesn't it.
So, why tinker with a winning formation just to accommodate one player.
I agree with albie that when Baudry became available that DF was likely to go back to a back three but he really must be stupid to do so when the players themselves have said they struggle to do it justice.
The Blackpool games proves it, 4-1 down playing a back three then switch to a four and could have nicked a point.
If Fergie continues to mess about like this he will ruin our good start and we will most likely slip into mid table mediocrity.
I would love to be proved wrong but somehow doubt it.

Agree 100% Hound.
I honestly believe if Fergie doesn't get us up this season, the board will get rid. I was told before the season started that was part of the deal to release funds, promotion or walk. An extension of 2yrs to get us back into the championship with further funds being made available in the close season. The board know that the away support in the championship, with most teams bringing 2K plus, ( 3K+ with some teams ) would repay most of the funds spent to get us there. Difference of 5K average in this league, or 10/12K in championship. They had a 3yr plan to get us back, promotion this season is a must, Fergie knows if he doesn't succeed this year it could be the end of the road for him in management.
