Ref's in the spotlight (again)

This time it's down south, and not necessarily for a bad thing... depending on your views

http://www.skysports.com/football/news/11677/10642164/mike-dean-praised-for-quick-thinking-in-rare-birmingham-derby-incident

"Birmingham's players looked to take a quick restart after Gary Gardner gave Villa the lead in the first half, with the majority of Villa players, including goalkeeper Pierluigi Gollini, celebrating in the corner of the pitch in front of the away fans at St Andrews.

Having initially walked towards his team-mates to celebrate, Villa's Mile Jedinak turned back into Birmingham's half, meaning the hosts could not take a quick restart legally."

So Mike Dean essentially stopped Birmingham taking a legal restart in the game; but some would argue from a sporting perspective he did the right thing.

I think in a sense he did; but when he's essentially stopped Birmingham from doing what they're well within their rights to do it's not really fair on them. If Villa over celebrate then it's their own fault for exposing themselves to the quick kick off.

Thoughts?

Someone posted a clip couple of years ago of a keeper who ran up late in the game and actually scored. Camera stayed on him as he strolled back to his goal celebrating as he went. Off screen the opposition kicked off and blasted the ball into the net.

Funny as feck, though don't think it was a British team.

This happened in an OF game at Parkhead in the early nineties - Rangers kicked off after a Celtic goal and almost scored as there were only about 4 Celtic players not celebrating

This was the game in question - although the STV highlights included omit to show the "incident"

Also one where Celtic has a goal disallowed and we're all so busy haranguing the ref while Rangers went up and scored at the other end

Spot on Ginger that was from Big Jock's last season

...and they wonder why we're paranoid

Sorry.

Penalty denied. Not a disallowed goal.

Hopefully, Rangers will be hammered for this.

My POV - the sad truth is that they were not hammered in 1978 or in 1993 - and won't be in 2016 for anything either

I thought the referee had to check both goalkeepers were ready before restarting the game?
